Service Level Decision‐making in Rural Physiotherapy: Development of Conceptual Models
ConclusionsRural physiotherapy SLDM is not a one‐dimensional process but results from the complex interaction of clusters of systems issues. Decision‐making about physiotherapy service provision is influenced by both internal and external factors. Similarities in influencing factors and the iterative nature of decision‐making emerged, which enabled linking physiotherapy SLDM with clinical decision‐making and placing both within the broader healthcare context. The conceptual models provide a way of thinking about decisions informing rural physiotherapy service provision. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd....

Effect of Water Immersion on Dual‐task Performance: Implications for Aquatic Therapy
ConclusionParticipants tended to make fewer ‘cognitive’ errors while immersed chest‐deep in water than on land. These same participants also tended to display less postural sway under dual‐task conditions, but more in water than on land. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. ‘Mirror Therapy and Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation for Management of Phantom Limb Pain in Amputees — A Single Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial’
DiscussionBoth Mirror Therapy and TENS were found to be effective in pain reduction on a short‐term basis. However, no difference between the two groups was found. Substantiation with long‐term follow‐up is essential to find its long‐term effectiveness. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. (Source: Physiotherapy Research International)

Improvements in Functional Exercise Capacity after a Residential Behavioural Change, Diet and Fitness Program for Obese Adults
DiscussionOur findings suggest that rehabilitation beyond weight loss may be derived from participation in a brief, intensive behavioural change, diet and fitness programme. Physiotherapists are in a prime position to address the physical and motivational challenges participants face while living with severe obesity: targeting functional exercise capacity is one key strategy for addressing immobility associated with obesity. Pre ‐operative Functional Parameters of Patients Undergoing Total Knee Arthroplasty
ConclusionThe current study suggests a functional profile for subjects who are scheduled to undergo TKA. Our results show that the correlations of self‐report and performance‐based measures of function and reported pain are poor. This enhances the idea of using all of these types of measures to establish the functional profile a sample of subjects with advanced KOA. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Physical Activity Levels During Acute Inpatient Admission After Hip Fracture are Very Low
DiscussionPhysical activity levels during an acute inpatient admission surgery for hip fracture are very low. Patients may have difficulty completing basic activities of daily living post‐discharge into the community. Physical activity should be optimized as early in the rehabilitation process as able. The Bobath Concept in Walking Activity in Chronic Stroke Measured Through the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health
ConclusionA rehabilitation programme based on the Bobath Concept improved walking activities in people with chronic stroke. For this intervention, the use of the ICF qualifiers was sensitive in perceiving post‐treatment changes. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. (Source: Physiotherapy Research International)

Trunk Muscle Activation During Different Quadruped Stabilization Exercises in Individuals with Chronic Low Back Pain
ConclusionsLR should be recommended over AR for individuals with chronic LBP. Moreover, the application of ALR should be approached carefully on the basis of progress and ability to stabilize the spine in this patient population. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. The Efficacy of Low‐Level Laser Therapy for Shoulder Tendinopathy: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials
ConclusionThis review shows that optimal LLLT can offer clinically relevant pain relief and initiate a more rapid course of improvement, both alone and in combination with physiotherapy interventions. Our findings challenge the conclusions in previous multimodal shoulder reviews of physiotherapy and their lack of intervention quality assessments. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Effects of 12 Weeks of Supervised Exercise After Endovascular Treatment: A Randomized Clinical Trial
This study aimed to assess the effects of supervised exercise training (SET) after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) compared with PTA alone on physical function, limb hemodynamics and health‐related quality of life in patients with intermittent claudication. MethodsFifty patients who all underwent PTA for intermittent claudication were included in the study. Both groups received usual post‐operative care. In addition, the intervention group performed two sessions of hospital‐based SET and one home‐based exercise session per week for 12 weeks after PTA. The control group did not receive any additional f...

Feedback Received While Practicing Everyday Activities During Rehabilitation After Stroke: An Observational Study
ConclusionGiven the importance of specific content for learning, therapists could replace some motivational statements with information feedback. When practicing alone, information feedback could be provided by commercially available biofeedback or customized equipment. Copyright © 2014 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Balance and Gait in People with Multiple Sclerosis: A Comparison with Healthy Controls and the Immediate Change after an Intervention based on the Bobath Concept
This study provides further evidence of balance and gait limitations in people with MS and indicates that a single treatment based on principles of the Bobath concept to the foot and ankle can result in immediate improvements in balance and ankle PF during gait in people with MS. Long‐term Exercise Adherence After High‐intensity Interval Training in Cardiac Rehabilitation: A Randomized Study
DiscussionThe results from this study have shown that both home‐based and hospital‐based HIT in cardiac rehabilitation induce promising long‐term exercise adherence, with maintenance of peak oxygen uptake significantly above baseline values at a one‐year follow‐up. The implication for physiotherapy practice is that HIT in cardiac rehabilitation induces satisfactory long‐term exercise adherence. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
