The Effectiveness of Vestibular Rehabilitation Interventions in Treating Unilateral Peripheral Vestibular Disorders: A Systematic Review
DiscussionResults suggest that vestibular therapy for unilateral peripheral vestibular hypofunction is effective. When considering all seven studies included in the review, it is difficult to determine the superiority of one intervention over another in treating unilateral peripheral vestibular hypofunction except when patient outcomes are captured by the dynamic gait index or dizziness handicap inventory. Many studies in this review demonstrate notable biases, suggesting that results should be used with caution. Future research should aim to use a common set of measures to capture outcomes. Incidence, Time Course and Predictors of Impairments Relating to Caring for the Profoundly Affected arm After Stroke: A Systematic Review
DiscussionThere is no published evidence on predicting the likelihood of difficulty caring for the arm following stroke. However, the related impairments of spasticity, pain and contracture are common. Given the time‐course of development, clinicians may need not only to intervene early but also be prepared to act over a longer time period. Further research is needed to examine difficulty caring for the arm and the relationship with associated impairments to enable researchers and clinicians to develop targeted interventions. Importance Attributed to Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Competencies by Public Sector Physical Therapists in Kuwait: A Population‐based Exploratory Study
ConclusionsParticipants perceived CVP competencies as generally relevant to practice. However, greater importance was attributed to these competencies in relation to management of CVP conditions (e.g. those that address lifestyle‐related conditions) rather than across practice areas. Research is needed to elucidate whether this finding reflects the profession's commitment to holistic care, the prevalence of lifestyle‐related risk factors and conditions irrespective of a patient's primary complaint presenting to the PT, best evidence‐based, non‐pharmacologic practice to address these or some combination. The Effect of Altering Knee Position and Squat Depth on VMO  : VL EMG Ratio During Squat Exercises
ConclusionIncreases in relative VMO activation did occur in ‘deeper’ squat depths (50° and 80° knee flexion) compared with the 20° condition. Further research is needed in this area concerning the effects of such exercise modifications on a symptomatic patellofemoral pain syndrome population. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Service Level Decision ‐making in Rural Physiotherapy: Development of Conceptual Models
ConclusionsRural physiotherapy SLDM is not a one‐dimensional process but results from the complex interaction of clusters of systems issues. Decision‐making about physiotherapy service provision is influenced by both internal and external factors. Similarities in influencing factors and the iterative nature of decision‐making emerged, which enabled linking physiotherapy SLDM with clinical decision‐making and placing both within the broader healthcare context. The conceptual models provide a way of thinking about decisions informing rural physiotherapy service provision. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd....

Capacity of Physiotherapy Workforce Production in Thailand: Public–Private Mix, Secular Trend and Geographic Distribution
ConclusionThe production capacity of the physiotherapy workforce is below an estimated need. Private physiotherapy institutes need more support to improve the situation of staff shortages and student graduation rates. The non‐central regions should be encouraged to produce more physiotherapists. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. (Source: Physiotherapy Research International)

Effect of Water Immersion on Dual ‐task Performance: Implications for Aquatic Therapy
ConclusionParticipants tended to make fewer ‘cognitive’ errors while immersed chest‐deep in water than on land. These same participants also tended to display less postural sway under dual‐task conditions, but more in water than on land. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. Mirror Therapy and Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation for Management of Phantom Limb Pain in Amputees — A Single Blinded Randomized Controlled Trial
DiscussionBoth Mirror Therapy and TENS were found to be effective in pain reduction on a short‐term basis. However, no difference between the two groups was found. Substantiation with long‐term follow‐up is essential to find its long‐term effectiveness. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. (Source: Physiotherapy Research International)

Physiotherapy Research Priorities in Switzerland: Views of the Various Stakeholders
DiscussionResearch directly related to physiotherapy treatment is of highest priority. It should focus on diagnostic groups related to chronicity in anticipation of demographic changes. Multidisciplinary networks for research and practice, alongside sound coordination of research projects, should increase the impact of physiotherapy research. An accurate dissemination of research priorities, defined and supported by multiple stakeholder groups, might strengthen their impact on research and practice. Medical Exercise Therapy for Treating Musculoskeletal Pain: A Narrative Review of Results from Randomized Controlled Trials with a Theoretical Perspective
DiscussionMET is a biopsychosocial treatment that reduces pain and improves activities of daily living in patients with a musculoskeletal pain condition. Pain modulation is a key feature of MET, and an important area for further research is to elucidate the specific mechanisms behind the treatment effects. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
