Factors Predictive of Success in Probing for Congenital Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction
Conclusions:The success rate of nasolacrimal probing for CNLDO was not related to age, gender, laterality, or the surgeon's experience. Otorhinolaryngology evaluation is recommended for unresponsive patients.[J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2017;54(2):123 –127.] (Source: Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus)

Primary and Secondary Intraocular Lens Implantations in Children With Pediatric Cataract: Visual Acuity and Strabismus at the Age of 2 Years and Older
Conclusions:Optic rehabilitation of the pediatric cataract is an important factor in the development of strabismus. These cases should be monitored closely.[J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2017;54(2):97 –102.] (Source: Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus)

Changing Strabismus Surgery Distribution at Shanxi Province Eye Hospital in Central China
Conclusions:The amount of strabismus surgery increased during the past decade. The proportion of patients with intermittent exotropia increased over time compared to those with other types of strabismus.[J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2017;54(2):112 –116.] (Source: Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus)

Surgical Treatment of Adult-Onset Esotropia: Characteristics and Outcomes
Conclusions:The causes of adult-onset esotropia are diverse. A variety of surgical approaches are employed and, in conjunction with adjustable sutures, provide a good rate of diplopia resolution and acceptable ocular alignment.[J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2017;54(2):104 –111.] (Source: Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus)

Visual, Topographic, and Pachymetric Effects of Pediatric Corneal Collagen Cross-linking
Conclusions:In pediatric patients with progressive keratoconus, CXL appears to be effective in improving CDVA, Kmax, and corneal topographic irregularity at 2 years' follow-up. However, long-term effects of CXL should be tested by further studies in pediatric keratoconus.[J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2017;54(2):84 –89.] (Source: Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus)

Rate of Strabismus Detection on Digital Photographs Increases by Using Off-center Near Target
Conclusions:Off-center fixation onto a near target ensures that participants are actively looking at the target and may increase accommodative effort, thereby increasing the detection rate of strabismus.[J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2017;54(2):90 –96.] (Source: Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus)

A High Prevalence of Exotropia in Patients With Duane Retraction Syndrome in a Tertiary Eye Care Center in South India
Conclusions:This is an exclusive study on a large series of patients with Duane retraction syndrome and exotropia. Almost one-third of patients with Duane retraction syndrome patients might have exotropia. Although patients with Duane retraction syndrome and exotropia had clinical characteristics and associations similar to those with Duane retraction syndrome and esotropia, there was an increased propensity for overshoots and face turn opposite to the affected eye, which the authors hypothesize to be due to a tight or short lateral rectus muscle.[J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2017;54(2):117 –122.] (Source: Journal of...

Two Cases of Retinoblastoma Invading the Optic Nerve Sheath
The authors report two cases of retinoblastoma with extension along the optic nerve sheath with negative surgical margins, a pattern not considered in current classifications but suggesting a high risk of metastasis. Both patients were treated with adjuvant chemotherapy alone and remain free of extraocular disease 15 and 22 months later.[J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 2016;53:e51 –e53.] (Source: Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus)

Comparison of Pediatric and Adult Ophthalmology Consultations in an Urban Academic Medical Center
Conclusions:The authors identified several interesting differences between the pediatric and adult consultation services. Although adult patients were more likely to have abnormal findings, the ophthalmology team recommended change in management for more than half of each group. These rates of intervention suggest that it is equally important that children be considered for an ophthalmology consultation and examined as soon as possible. In addition, residents may need particular guidance in evaluating pediatric inpatients.[J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabimus. 201X;XX(X):XX –XX.] (Source: Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus)

Ophthalmologic Outcomes of Children Born Premature Without ROP: Correlations With Gestational Age and Psychomotor Development
Conclusions:In the absence of ROP, hyperopia was more common in infants 32 weeks or older who weighed more than 1,500 g at birth; other vision problems were similar in subgroups. This may represent impending myopia in those younger than 32 weeks weighing less than 1,500 g.[J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 201X;XX(X):XX –XX.] (Source: Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus)

Longitudinal Changes in Refractive Error in a Pediatric Referral Population in Korea
Conclusions:A pediatric referral population in Korea showed a negative shift in SE refractive error and increasing tendency in astigmatism during childhood. Changes in refractive error may be influenced by the initial degree of SE refractive error and astigmatism.[J Pediatr Ophthalmol Strabismus. 201X;XX(X):XX –XX.] (Source: Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus)
