Sarcopenia and Skeletal Muscle Quality as Predictors of Postoperative Complication and Early Mortality in Gynecologic Cancer
This study aimed to evaluate the influence of sarcopenia and the indicators of skeletal muscle (SM) quality on surgical outcomes in women with ovarian and endometrial cancer who underwent oncologic surgery. Methods Endometrial and ovarian cancer patients admitted between 2008 and 2015 and who had computerized tomography images available within 45 days before surgery were enrolled in a retrospective cohort (n = 250). Computerized tomography images at the third lumbar vertebra were used to assess SM. Skeletal muscle index (SMI) was calculated in the range from −29 to +150 Hounsfield Units; reduced muscle attenuation (ra...

Fertility-Preserving Treatment in Young Women With Grade 1 Presumed Stage IA Endometrial Adenocarcinoma: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusions The existing results show that patients who received hysteroscopic resection followed by progestin therapy achieved the highest CRR. Patients who received oral progestin only might be more likely to recur and have more systemic adverse effects. Recent intrauterine progestin therapy such as levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system combined with gonadotropin-release hormone receptor agonist/progestin have a satisfactory PregR and low ReR rate. Considering the inherent limitations of the studies we included, further well-designed, randomized controlled trials are necessary to confirm and update this analysis...

Evaluating the Role of F-18 Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography Scanning in the Staging of Patients With Stage IIIB Cervical Carcinoma and the Impact on Treatment Decisions
Conclusions Fluorodeoxyglucose PET/CT is useful in assessing distant disease and evaluating nodal involvement in patients with invasive cervical cancer. Additional findings on the PET/CT that were missed by conventional imaging and clinical examination caused treatment change in a significant proportion of patients. Tumor Boost Using External Beam Radiation in Cervical Cancer Patients Unable to Receive Intracavitary Brachytherapy: Outcome From a Multicenter Retrospective Study (Korean Radiation Oncology Group 1419)
Conclusions Approximately 70% of patients had local tumor control after curative radiotherapy using EBRT-B. Early tumor response and overall treatment time of 53 days or less were closely associated with favorable local control. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Cancer)

Expression of βV-Tubulin in Secretory Cells of the Fallopian Tube Epithelium Marks Cellular Atypia
Conclusions In summary, βV-tubulin was localized to secretory cells of the distal FTE and its expression varied according to the clinical diagnosis. The frequency of these cells and thus expression of βV-tubulin were dramatically enriched in tissue obtained from BRCA mutant cases, which also exhibited pronounced histologic atypia indicative of early predysplastic aberrations. Furthermore, elevated expression of βV-tubulin correlated with poor differentiation status in serous ovarian neoplasms. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Cancer)

Potential Significance of Peptidome in Human Ovarian Cancer for Patients With Ascites
Objective Ovarian cancer (OC) is one of the lethal gynecological malignancies. Most women affected by OC with malignant ascites will relapse. Peptidomics, as an emerging branch of proteomics, is more applied in screening of disease biomarkers, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring. However, there is still little in-depth analysis about peptidomics study in OC with malignant ascites. Methods A comparative peptidomic profiling of ascites fluid between 6 OC patients and 6 benign gynecological conditions using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was analyzed. Afterward, the Ingenuity Pathway Analysis was perform...

Relative Effects of Age, Race, and Stage on Mortality in Gestational Choriocarcinoma
Objective Gestational choriocarcinoma is a malignant form of gestational trophoblastic disease that usually arises after a molar pregnancy, but may follow any antecedent pregnancy. Investigations in this rare cancer are limited. We evaluated the prognostic effects of age, race, and stage in choriocarcinomas diagnosed for 4 decades. Methods Patients diagnosed as having gestational choriocarcinoma between 1973 and 2014 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results program were eligible. Relationships with overall survival and cancer-specific survival were evaluated using log-rank testing and Cox modeling. Multiva...

Reproductive Outcomes After Gestational Trophoblastic Neoplasia. A Comparison Between Single-Agent and Multiagent Chemotherapy: Retrospective Analysis From the MITO-9 Group
Conclusions Except for the risk of premature ovarian failure, a rare adverse effect of combined treatments, both single-agent and multiagent chemotherapy can be safely administered to patients with a desire for childbearing. High-risk patients have worse reproductive outcomes because they undergo hysterectomy more frequently than low-risk patients. (Source: International Journal of Gynecological Cancer)

Platelet-Derived Growth Factor D Is a Prognostic Biomarker and Is Associated With Platinum Resistance in Epithelial Ovarian Cancer
This study aimed to investigate whether platelet-derived growth factor D (PDGF-D) is a prognostic biomarker and is associated with platinum resistance in epithelial ovarian cancer, which has not been studied by others previously. Methods In this study, we detected expression of PDGF-D in ovarian cancer tissues through immunohistochemistry and Western blotting. Furthermore, we analyzed the association between PDGF-D expression and clinicopathological features including prognosis in epithelial ovarian cancer. Statistical analyses were performed by using χ2 test, log-rank test, Cox regression test, and Kaplan-Meier method...
