Morbidity and Mortality Risk Assessment in Gynecologic Oncology Surgery Using the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program Database
Introduction Gynecologic oncology patients represent a distinct patient population with a variety of surgical risks. The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP) database provides an opportunity to analyze large cohorts of patients over extended periods with high accuracy. Our goal was to develop a postoperative risk assessment calculator capable of providing a standardized, objective means of preoperatively identifying high-risk patients in the gynecologic oncology population. Methods We queried the ACS NSQIP database for gynecologic oncology patients from 2005 to 2013. M...

Assessment of Quality of Life and Urinary and Sexual Function After Radical Hysterectomy in Long-Term Cervical Cancer Survivors
Aims The aim of this study was to evaluate long-term quality of life and urinary and sexual function in long-term cervical cancer survivors previously treated with radical hysterectomy (RH) type C2/type III. Methods All patients who presented at Campus Bio-Medico of Rome for RH type C2/type III for cervical cancer were considered eligible for this retrospective study protocol. We included exclusively patients with complete response to primary treatment with at least 36 months of follow up. Assessing Patient-reported Quality of Life Outcomes in Vulva Cancer Patients: A Systematic Literature Review
Conclusions Vulva cancer treatment is associated with considerable morbidity deteriorating QoL. To date, there is no validated PROM available that provides adequate coverage of VC-related issues. The study confirms the need for a VC-specific QoL instrument with sensitive scales that allows for broad cross-cultural application for use in clinical trials. The Danish Gynecological Cancer Nursing Database: Creating Evidence for Quality Improvements in Preoperative and Postoperative Cancer Care
Conclusions At national level, DGCD offers a comprehensive overview of the total patient pathway within gynecological cancer surgery. The DGCD Nursing has added to the quality and implementation of evidence-based preoperative and postoperative care and in addition supported formation of professional networks. With a continued validation of data, DGCD Nursing now constitutes a sound and unique basis for research within the field of preoperative and postoperative cancer care. Patterns of Care for Stage IA Cervical Cancer: Use of Definitive Radiation Therapy Versus Hysterectomy
Objective The standard of care for clinical IA cervical cancer is surgery, but nonoperative cases may receive definitive radiation therapy (RT). Herein, we investigated national practice patterns associated with the administration of definitive RT as compared with hysterectomy-based surgery (HYS) as well as delivery of adjuvant RT after HYS. Methods/Materials The National Cancer Data Base (NCDB) was queried for clinical IA primary cervical cancer cases (2004–2013) receiving definitive RT or HYS with or without adjuvant RT. Patients with unknown RT or surgery status were excluded, as were benign histologies and recei...
