A rare case report of tracheal leech infestation in a 40-year-old woman.
Authors: Zhang P, Zhang R, Zou J, Zhu T Abstract Leeches are the very rare types of airway foreign body. Here we report a rare case of a 40-year-old woman with tracheal leech infestation. A 40-year-old woman presented 2-month history of dyspnea, occasional haemoptysis. There were foreign body sensation in throat, cough and hoarseness. Computed Tomography (CT) revealed some soft tissue shadow in the upper trachea. Eventually a 5 cm long living leech was smoothly removed from trachea by rigid bronchoscopy under sevoflurane general anesthesia. The airway leech infestation should be kept in mind especially in ...

A rare case report of chronic cholecystitis complicated with incomplete gallbladder volvulus.
Authors: Luo P, Wang C, Zhang G Abstract Gallbladder volvulus, or gallbladder torsion, is a rare condition. There have been very few case reports of chronic cholecystitis complicated by incomplete gallbladder volvulus. A 63-year-old woman had suffered recurrent right upper quadrant pain for 3 years, which had grown worse during the past day. She was admitted through the emergency department on February 24, 2012. Laparoscopic exploration revealed approximately 180° torsion of the gallbladder. Postoperative pathologic examination suggested a diagnosis of chronic cholecystitis, without operative complication...

Massive plasmacytosis with severe marrow suppression induced by methimazole in Graves' disease patients: case report and literature review.
In this study, we admitted a patient with Graves' disease who had been treated with 15 mg/d methimazole (MMI) for 42 days. She presented with agranulocytosis and plasmacytosis in bone marrow (BM). The patient withdrew taking MMI and was treated with broad-spectrum antibiotics and G-CSF. After two weeks, the patient's peripheral blood improvement was achieved and BM nearly returned to normal level. The case provides evidence that the elder patients with a high dose of MMI treatment are prone to develop agranulocytosis, especially the duration of treatment is longer than three months. We summary the literatures, and propose ...

Inhaled sevoflurane for lower gastrointestinal endoscopy with possible propofol anaphylaxis.
We present a case of female patient under sedation for lower gastrointestinal endoscopy with possible propofol anaphylaxis. Then sevoflurane was successfully used for the examination and the following surgery. We discussed the possible feasibility of sevoflurane for the examination of lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. Propofol is widely used for the sedation of outpatient with lower gastrointestinal endoscopy. But it may cause some allergic reaction. Inhaled sevoflurane may provide a satisfactory and safe alternative for adult outpatients' endoscopy. PMID: 25419408 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: Inter...

Model construction of nursing service satisfaction in hospitalized tumor patients.
This study aims to construct a satisfaction model on nursing service in hospitalized tumor patients. Using questionnaires, data about hospitalized tumor patients' expectation, quality perception and satisfaction of hospital nursing service were obtained. A satisfaction model of nursing service in hospitalized tumor patients was established through empirical study and by structural equation method. This model was suitable for tumor specialized hospital, with reliability and validity. Patient satisfaction was significantly affected by quality perception and patient expectation. Patient satisfaction and patient loyalty was al...

BMI and physical fitness in Chinese adult students: a large school-based analysis.
CONCLUSION: The relationship between PFI and BMI of adult men conforms to the quadratic model, and the influence of PFI by BMI is more serious in middle-age male than youth male. PMID: 25419411 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher] (Source: International Journal of Clinical and Experimental Medicine)

Exposure to difenoconazole, diclofop-methyl alone and combination alters oxidative stress and biochemical parameters in albino rats.
Authors: Abd-Alrahman SH, Elhalwagy ME, Kotb GA, Farid H, Farag AA, Draz HM, Isa AM, Sabico S Abstract The herbicides diclofop-methyl and the fungicide difenoconazole are widely used in agriculture and may lead to serious toxicity risks. However, limited studies have been done to evaluate differences in the metabolic effects of these herbicides. Difenoconazole (10 mg/kg) and Diclofop-methyl (1 mg/kg) were orally administrated individually (Groups 1 and 2 respectively) as well as combined (G3) to rats for 28 days. In all treated groups, alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and urea were significantly higher than ...

Potential role of fractional anisotropy derived from diffusion tensor imaging in differentiating high-grade gliomas from low-grade gliomas: a meta-analysis.
CONCLUSIONS: The results of our meta-analysis present that the FA derived from DTI act as a useful diagnostic marker could be used in distinguishing the HGGs from LGGs in the preoperative and the clinical application values are to be confirmed by further larger case-control studies. ATPase may play a critical role in disturbance of energy metabolism in congestive heart failure rats.
CONCLUSION: The expression of F1-ATPase decreased parallel with abnormal of the adenine nucleotide in myocardium of congestive heart failure. It may play a critical role in disturbance of energy metabolism in disfunction of heart. Improvement of white matter and functional connectivity abnormalities by repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation in crossed aphasia in dextral.
In conclusion, one of the mechanisms of CAD is that right hemisphere is the language dominance. Stimulating left Wernicke area could improve auditory comprehension, stimulating left Broca's area could enhance expression, and the results outlasted 6 months by 1 Hz rTMS balancing the excitability inter-hemisphere in CAD. Copy number variation of the Lipoprotein(a) (LPA) gene is associated with coronary artery disease in a southern Han Chinese population.
Authors: Wu Z, Sheng H, Chen Y, Tang J, Liu Y, Chen Q, Lu L, Jin W Abstract Copy number variations (CNVs), genomic duplication or deletion events occurring at larger than 1 kb scale, contribute to the complex diseases substantially. Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is a major inherited risk factor for atherosclerosis and coronary artery disease (CAD). We investigated the association between a CNV of the Lp(a) (LPA) gene and CAD. The case-control study included 271 CAD patients and 207 controls diagnosed by coronary angiography. A taqman real-time fluorescence PCR based technique was developed according to the 2 × 2...

Ooplast transfer of triploid pronucleus zygote improve reconstructed human-goat embryonic development.
Authors: Yao L, Wang P, Liu J, Chen J, Tang H, Sha H Abstract Poor development of the interspecies somatic cell nuclear transfer (iSCNT) embryos was due to nuclear-mitochondrial incompatibility. In humans, it has been known that ooplast transfer (OT) could support normal fertilization, the development of embryos and prevents the transmission of mtDNA disease. To investigate whether OT could support development of the iSCNT embryos, the ooplast of Triploid Pronucleus (3PN) zygote which would be discarded in IVF lab was transferred into the enucleated goat oocytes to construct humanized iSCNT embryos in our ...
