Minimally invasive surgery using mini anterior incision for thyroid diseases: a prospective cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: It is not easy to demonstrate the advantages of MIT over conventional and video-assisted surgery. The main complications, such as nerve injury, hypoparathyroidism, or hemorrhage, are the same as in other surgical approaches. MIT has demonstrated advantages over conventional open approaches for both hemi- and total thyroidectomy and the benefits do not depend on the open or video-assisted approach. The anterior mini-incision approach can be performed with an operative time and postoperative complication profile equivalent to conventional thyroidectomy while providing excellent cosmesis with a 2 cm scar in both ...

Microalbuminuria in untreated prehypertension and hypertension without diabetes.
CONCLUSIONS: In preHT and HT, SBP, BNP and LVMI are associated with MA. In the evaluation of increased blood pressures, in case of increased BNP and LVMI, MA should be investigated even in prehypertensive stages. The subjects with increased blood pressures should get medical treatment to prevent the effects on vascular structure and myocardium even in prehypertensive phase. Expression of vaspin in the joint and the levels in the serum and synovial fluid of patients with osteoarthritis.
Authors: Bao JP, Jiang LF, Chen WP, Hu PF, Wu LD Abstract The aim of this study was to determine the expression of vaspin in the joint and investigate the distribution between paired serum and synovial fluid (SF) in osteoarthritis (OA) patients, and serum in healthy controls. The gene expression of vaspin was measured by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR) in the OA joint tissues. The vaspin protein expression in the cartilage, synovium and osteophyte from OA patients who required total knee replacement (TKR) were detected by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Levels of vaspin in serum and SF ...

The presence of Torque teno virus in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Authors: Feyzioğlu B, Teke T, Ozdemir M, Karaibrahimoğlu A, Doğan M, Yavşan M Abstract Torque Teno Virus (TTV) has been identified as transfusion-transmitted virus in humans, initially. Although TTV viremia is extremely common in the general population worldwide, there is no direct causal evidence linking TTV infection to specific clinical manifestations. Our hypothesis was that TTV might play a role in Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by inducing inflammatory mechanisms previously identified. The study was conducted on 57 COPD patients and 39 healthy control groups. COPD patient groups inc...

Ovariectomy modulation of morphine analgesia of neuropathic pain is associated with the change of K(+)-Cl(-) cotransporter 2 protein level in spinal dorsal horn.
In this study, we used K(+)-Cl(-) cotransporter 2 (KCC2) as a molecule target to investigate the mechanism underlying the phenomenon. Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to ovariectomy (OVX)+morphine group, OVX+Saline group, sham surgery (OVX-sham)+morphine group and OVX-sham+saline group. All the rats received SNI surgery three weeks after ovariectomy. We used von Frey values as a sign of neuropathic pain. On PO day 14, 1 μg morphine or the vehicle saline was administered intrathecally via a PE-10 catheter formerly implanted. Hindpaw withdrawal threshold was determined before and 30, 60, 90, 120, 150, 180 min afte...
