Combination of Sasa quelpaertensis Nakai Leaf Extract and Cisplatin Suppresses the Cancer Stemness and Invasion of Human Lung Cancer Cells
In conclusion, the data suggest that SQE alone, or in combination with CIS, represents a promising therapeutic strategy for eliminating cancer stemness and cell invasion potential of CSCs, thereby treating and preventing metastatic lung cancer cells. (Source: Integrative Cancer Therapies)

Total Alkaloids of Rubus alceifolius Poir Shows Anti-Angiogenic Activity In Vivo and In Vitro
Total alkaloids is an active ingredient of the natural plant Rubus alceifolius Poir, commonly used for the treatment of various cancers. Antitumor effects may be mediated through anti-angiogenic mechanisms. As such, the goal of the present study was to investigate and evaluate the effect of total alkaloids in Rubus alceifolius Poir (TARAP) on tumor angiogenesis and investigate the underlying molecular mechanisms of TARAP action in vivo and in vitro. A chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay was used to assess angiogenesis in vivo. An MTT assay was performed to determine the viability of human umbilical vein endot...

Spinal Cord Stimulation as Adjuvant During Chemotherapy and Reirradiation Treatment of Recurrent High-Grade Gliomas
Conclusions. Spinal cord stimulation during reirradiation and chemotherapy is feasible and well tolerated. In our study, spinal cord stimulation was associated with clinical improvement and longer survival than previously reported in recurrent anaplastic gliomas. Spinal cord stimulation as adjuvant during chemotherapy and reirradiation in relapsed HGGs merits further research. (Source: Integrative Cancer Therapies)

Cancer Type Does Not Affect Exercise-Mediated Improvements in Cardiorespiratory Function and Fatigue
Conclusion. Although trends toward improved cardiorespiratory and fatigue parameters only reached significance in some groups, there were no significant differences between cancer types. This suggests that cardiorespiratory and fatigue improvements following rehabilitative exercise are not dependent on cancer type. Further research investigating alternative physiological parameters are needed to confirm the relationship between cancer type and exercise-mediated rehabilitation. Date Palm Pollen as a Preventative Intervention in Radiation- and Chemotherapy-Induced Oral Mucositis: A Pilot Study
Conclusion. DPP treatment reduced the incidence of mouth pain and oral ulcers that often require modifications to soft/liquid diet. The complex mixture of bioactive constituents contained in DPP may have protected the oral mucosa by blocking oxidative free radicals, preventing DNA damage, and neutralizing inflammatory reactions. Further randomized controlled studies are needed to validate DPP efficacy in the broader management of chemotherapy- and radiation-induced mucositis. (Source: Integrative Cancer Therapies)

Multicenter, Phase III Trial Comparing Selenium Supplementation With Observation in Gynecologic Radiation Oncology: Follow-Up Analysis of the Survival Data 6 Years After Cessation of Randomization
Conclusions. Our extended follow-up analysis demonstrates that Se supplementation had no influence on the effectiveness of the anticancer irradiation therapy and did not negatively affect patients’ long-term survival. In view of its positive effects on RT-induced diarrhea, we consider Se supplementation to be a meaningful and beneficial adjuvant treatment in Se-deficient cervical and uterine cancer patients while undergoing pelvic radiation therapy. In vitro Anti-Angiogenesis Effects and Active Constituents of the Saponin Fraction From Gleditsia sinensis
Conclusion. SFGS is substantially able to prevent angiogenesis by interfering with multiple steps. The findings provide a new explanation for the antitumor effects of G sinensis fruits. Gleditsiosides B, I, J, O, and Q are probably the main active constituents of SFGS. (Source: Integrative Cancer Therapies)

Multitargeted Effects of Hangeshashinto for Treatment of Chemotherapy-Induced Oral Mucositis on Inducible Prostaglandin E2 Production in Human Oral Keratinocytes
Conclusions. These lines show that HST includes several PGE2-regulating ingredients that have different mechanisms and can function as a multicomponent and multitarget agent for treatment of COM, indicating that HST may be beneficial in a new medical strategy for COM treatment. A Clinical Protocol Demonstrating Rapid, Safe, and Effective Treatment of Vitamin D Deficiency: A Potential Role in Oncology Alongside Conventional Treatment
Vitamin D status has importance in the prevention and treatment of many malignancies. Patients with breast, colon, and lung malignancies with higher vitamin D status at the onset of treatment have an improved prognosis compared with those patients with a lower vitamin D status. Methods to improve vitamin D status are often unreliable and take time, often months, to be successful. A method that improves and normalizes the vitamin D status safely, quickly (within 1-2 weeks), and reliably is described herein. The use of this method will allow testing of the hypothesis that improving the vitamin D status of patients with vario...

Characteristics of Cancer Patients Presenting to an Integrative Medicine Practice-Based Research Network
Conclusions: Demographic characteristics, depression scores, perceived stress scores, and reasons for seeking integrative cancer care were not significantly different between cancer patients and noncancer patients. Perceived stress may be an important indicator of QOL. The association of perceived stress, depression and pain with seeking spirituality suggests that providing IM interventions, such as effective stress management techniques and pastoral or spiritual counseling, may be helpful to patients living with cancer.
