Anesthesia Management and Recovery after Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery

Trauma resulting from aggressive manipulation of organs, and especially the intestine, can increase postoperative complications and result in delay in normal recovery. In an attempt to minimize complications and overall duration of hospital stay, fast track strategies, called “early recovery after surgery” (ERAS) protocols, have been adopted. Laparoscopic surgery has recently been identified as a major component of rapid recovery. One of the key differences between the ...

The First Case of Tracheotomy Published in Greece in the 19 th Century
AbstractThe first publications related to tracheotomy and its implementation in Greece appeared in the medical print media in the 19th century. The first tracheotomy in Greece was carried out without anesthesia in the house of a small patient in 1864 by Tilemachos Maratos and Theodoros Aretaios. They subsequently reported the problems they faced and the outcome of the patient, thus setting the foundations for the implementation and establishment of tracheotomy in Greece. A short biography of Theodoros Aretaios follows. (Source: Hellenic Journal of Surgery)
