Feasibility of aortic valve planimetry at 7 T ultrahigh field MRI: Comparison to aortic valve MRI at 3 T and 1.5 T
ConclusionAortic valve planimetry at 7 T ultrahigh field MRI is technically feasible and in healthy volunteers offers an improved tissue contrast and a slightly better reproducibility than MR planimetry at 1.5 T and 3 T. (Source: European Journal of Radiology Open)

Filter tilting and retrievability of the Celect and Denali inferior vena cava filters using propensity score-matching analysis
ConclusionThe Denali IVC filter showed less tilt and low rate of filter tip abutment to the IVC wall after propensity score-matching analysis. The retrieval rate was not significantly different in the short-term filter indwelling setting. More large-scale, long-term follow-up studies are needed to verify these results. Knife wielding radiologist: A case report of primary pancreatic lymphoma
Publication date: 2018Source: European Journal of Radiology Open, Volume 5Author(s): Bradley Aaron Cagle, Brenda L. Holbert, Stephanie Wolanin, Rafel Tappouni, Neeraj LalwaniAbstractMajority of malignant pancreatic neoplasms are epithelial in origin and mostly arise from exocrine gland. Ductal adenocarcinoma compromises the major histological type of such tumors. Primary non-epithelial tumors of exocrine pancreatic gland are extremely rare and incorporate lymphoma and sarcoma. Primary pancreatic lymphoma compromises less than 0.5% of pancreatic malignancies. Primary pancreatic lymphoma can be difficult to differentiate fro...

Preprocedural planning of transcatheter mitral valve interventions by multidetector CT: What the radiologist needs to know
Publication date: 2018Source: European Journal of Radiology Open, Volume 5Author(s): Lorenzo Faggioni, Michela Gabelloni, Sandra Accogli, Marco Angelillis, Giulia Costa, Paolo Spontoni, Anna Sonia Petronio, Davide CaramellaAbstractMitral regurgitation is the most common valve disorder in the Western world, and although surgery is the established therapeutic gold standard, percutaneous transcatheter mitral interventions are gaining acceptance in selected patients who are inoperable or at an exceedingly high surgical risk. For such patients, multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) can provide a wealth of valuable morphologi...

FDG-PET and CT findings of activated brown adipose tissue in a patient with paraganglioma
Publication date: 2018Source: European Journal of Radiology Open, Volume 5Author(s): Yuko Ogawa, Koichiro Abe, Akiko Sakoda, Hiromi Onizuka, Shuji SakaiAbstractA 17-year-old female had been complaining of a headache for 6 years. She presented severe hypertension (200/138 mmHg) on admission. CT showed a hypervascular tumor behind the urinary bladder and a swelling of the right internal obturator node. Intense FDG uptakes were identified in the both lesions. High FDG accumulation was also observed in the brown adipose tissue (BAT) throughout the patient's body, and intense contrast enhancement was found in the BAT on CT. T...

Hepatic perivascular epithelioid cell tumor: A case report
We report a case of a patient with hepatic PEComa with the corresponding imaging findings on the ultrasound, contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) and hepatospecific MRI. After failed attempt to characterize the lesion by percutaneous biopsy, surgical resection was conducted and the final diagnosis was achieved. (Source: European Journal of Radiology Open)

Computed diffusion weighted imaging (cDWI) and voxelwise-computed diffusion weighted imaging (vcDWI) for oncologic liver imaging: A pilot study
ConclusionMeasuring higher upper b-values seems to lead to more precise computed high b-value images and a decrease of CV. vcDWI provides a comparable lesion contrast to b = 1500s/mm2 and offers additionally the reduction of T2 shine-through effects. For vcDWI, measuring b = 1000s/mm2 as upper b-value seems to be necessary to guarantee good lesion visibility in the liver based on our preliminary results. Frequency-selective non-linear blending for the computed tomography diagnosis of acute gangrenous cholecystitis: Pilot retrospective evaluation
ConclusionFrequency-selective non-linear blending post-processing increases the diagnostic accuracy of gangrenous cholecystitis owing to improved visualization of absence of focal enhancement and mural ulcerations. (Source: European Journal of Radiology Open)

Is there a role for perfusion imaging in assessing treatment response following ablative therapy of small renal masses—A systematic review
ConclusionsStudies were limited by small sample size and heterogeneous methodology. No studies have investigated the impact of perfusion imaging on management. This review highlights the current lack of evidence for perfusion imaging in response assessment following renal ablation, however it suggests that there may be a future role. Further prospective research is required to address this. (Source: European Journal of Radiology Open)

Schwannoma of the tongue—A common tumour in a rare location: A case report
We report a rare case of lingual schwannoma in a 20-year-old male patient who presented with a small, slow-growing mass over the right lateral border of the tongue with 1 year of evolution and that became recently ulcerated. The patient underwent MRI examination and complete surgical excision. Histopathological and immunohistochemical examination confirmed the diagnosis. (Source: European Journal of Radiology Open)

Comparative study evaluating the efficiency of cooled and uncooled single-treatment MWA in thyroid nodules after a 3-month follow up
ConclusionsCMWA leads to a slightly higher but statistically not significant nodule volume reduction than uMWA. Patient comfort during cMWA is higher than during uMWA. The risk of unintended side effects is less in cMWA. A Single-treatment provides sufficient results. (Source: European Journal of Radiology Open)

Retroperitoneal inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor: A case report
We present a case of a young patient with an asymptomatic retroperitoneal mass with some imaging findings that could point to the IMT diagnosis pre-operatively. After two failed attempts to fully characterize the lesion by percutaneous and surgical biopsy, surgical resection was conducted and the final diagnosis was achieved. Utility of coronal contrast-enhanced fat-suppressed FLAIR in the evaluation of optic neuropathy and atrophy
ConclusionCoronal CE-FS-FLAIR is quite specific in detecting optic neuropathy years after the onset of acute optic neuritis, but is less useful in detecting optic nerve atrophy. (Source: European Journal of Radiology Open)
