Evaluation of ileal Crohn’s disease response to TNF antagonists: Validation of MR enterography for assessing response. Initial results
ConclusionPre-treatment Clermont score as well as post-treatment MaRIA and Clermont scores, wall thickness and ΔMaRIA are significantly predictive of response to anti-TNF drugs in ileal Crohn’s disease. These results need to be verified in a larger study. (Source: European Journal of Radiology Open)

Comparative analysis between synthetic mammography reconstructed from digital breast tomosynthesis and full-field digital mammography for breast cancer detection and visibility
ConclusionsDiagnostic performances of 2DSM and FFDM images were comparable for detecting breast cancers, and it is possible that 2DSM may eliminate the need for additional FFDM during DBT-based imaging due to advances in image reconstruction methods. (Source: European Journal of Radiology Open)

Tumor volume dynamics and tumor growth rate in ALK-rearranged advanced non-small-cell lung cancer treated with crizotinib
ConclusionsTumor volume growth rate after nadir in ALK-rearranged NSCLC patients treated with crizotinib was obtained, providing objective reference values that can inform physicians when deciding to keep their patients on ALK directed therapy with slowly progressing lung cancer. Three cases of pulmonary tumor thrombotic microangiopathy (PTTM): Challenge in antemortem diagnosis using lung perfusion blood volume images by dual-energy computed tomography
Publication date: 2020Source: European Journal of Radiology Open, Volume 7Author(s): Hiroki Kamada, Hideki Ota, Yosuke Terui, Koichiro Sugimura, Shigefumi Fukui, Hiroaki Shimokawa, Kei TakaseAbstractPulmonary tumor thrombotic microangiopathy (PTTM) is a specific type of tumor embolism in the small and medium pulmonary arteries, leading to rapid progressive pulmonary hypertension. Antemortem diagnosis of PTTM is extremely difficult. We encountered three patients who were histopathologically or clinically diagnosed with PTTM. In all cases, lung perfused blood volume (PBV) images on dual-energy computed tomography (CT) demons...

Retrospective cohort study on clinical predictors for acute abnormalities on CT scan in adult patients with abdominal pain
ConclusionsWomen are less likely to have acute and surgical pathologies on CT ordered for non traumatic abdominal pain. Epigastric tenderness is negatively associated with abnormal and surgical CT results while RLQ tenderness is associated with an abnormal CT that is likely surgical in nature. These findings should help improve diagnostic accuracy of ordering providers and improve resource utilization. (Source: European Journal of Radiology Open)

Early detection of hepatic encephalopathy after transjugular intrahepatic portsystemic shunt using multiparametric magnetic resonance with spectroscopy
ConclusionsOur study demonstrated the efficacy of spectroscopy in Patient subjected to TIPS. MR 3 T with spectroscopy can become a valid tool for monitor the dynamics of changes in brain metabolism after TIPS and to provide an early diagnosis of HE allowing an early treatment. Atypical presentations of parathyroid gland pathology: A pictorial review
Publication date: 2019Source: European Journal of Radiology Open, Volume 6Author(s): Xin-Ying Kowa, Polly Richards, Mona Waterhouse, Laila Parvanta, Ashok AdamsAbstractPrimary hyperparathyroidism is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. It is in this day and age, an eminently treatable condition which relies heavily on preoperative imaging to localise enlarged parathyroid glands. The imaging appearances of parathyroid gland enlargement are varied; this paper seeks to address some of its more unusual manifestations with an emphasis on its atypical enhancement patterns, mimics and associations. An enlarged gla...

Pulmonary metastases from malignant epithelioid schwannoma of the arm presenting as fast-growing subsolid nodules: Report of an unusual case
Publication date: 2019Source: European Journal of Radiology Open, Volume 6Author(s): Andrea Borghesi, Luisa Bercich, Silvia Michelini, Francesco Bertagna, Alessandra Scrimieri, Roberto MaroldiAbstractSubsolid pulmonary nodules (SSNs) may be the manifestation of benign and malignant conditions. Malignant SSNs usually correspond to the preinvasive or invasive lepidic growth of pulmonary adenocarcinomas. More rarely, malignant SSNs may be the manifestation of primitive pulmonary lymphomas or metastases from extrapulmonary malignancies. In the case of metastases from extrapulmonary malignancies, the SSNs exhibit more aggressiv...

Harada, Kazuaki Nakashima, Takayoshi Uematsu, Takashi Sugino, Seiichirou Nishimura, Kaoru Takahashi, Yukiko Tadokoro, Tomomi Hayashi, Junichiro Watanabe, Shogo NakamotoAbstractA 63-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for breast cancer treatment. She had a large HER2-positive breast tumor on her left breast, and received neoadjuvant chemotherapy. After treatment, a shrunk spiculated mass with calcification-like high density was detected on mammography, and MRI revealed a large strong susceptibility artifact. Surgical specim...

Overview of epidermoid cyst
Publication date: 2019Source: European Journal of Radiology Open, Volume 6Author(s): Van Trung Hoang, Cong Thao Trinh, Canh Hung Nguyen, Vichit Chansomphou, Vinay Chansomphou, Thi Tinh Tam TranAbstractEpidermoid cysts are slow-growing, painless masses that elevate the skin and often have a central punctum that represents the plugged orifice of the pilosebaceous follicle. On ultrasound, they have a round to oval structure, well-circumscribed, avascular mass located in subcutaneous tissue along with phenomena of dorsal acoustic amplification and lateral shadowing. On MRI, they have slightly hypointense signal intensity on T1...
