Effects on respiratory system due to exposure to wheat flour
Conclusions Exposure to wheat flour increases the risk of developing respiratory symptoms; it also causes reduction in the pulmonary function parameters, as regards spirometry and DLCOSB. Exposure to wheat flour causes interstitial lung disease as detected by HRCT chest. Smoking augments the wheat flour induced lung disease. Prognostic values of pneumonia severity index, CURB-65 and expanded CURB-65 scores in community-acquired pneumonia in Zagazig University Hospitals
Conclusions Expanded CURB-65 score is simple, objective and more accurate scoring system for evaluation of CAP severity and can improve the efficiency of predicting the mortality in CAP patients, better than CURB-65 and PSI scores. Also, Expanded CUEB-65 may generate new therapeutic and prognostic modality in CAP especially in patients with liver cirrhosis. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Respiratory and cardiovascular complications in patients with liver cirrhosis due to hepatitis C virus and its impact on quality of life
Conclusion Respiratory and cardiovascular complications (elevated PASP, hypoxemia, increased LA area DD and/or tachycardia) are common complications in hepatic patients and should be assessed for control of symptoms, quality of life and survival. Echocardiography and N-terminal-pro-brain natriuretic peptide in assessment of left ventricular diastolic dysfunction in stable COPD in relation to disease severity
Conclusions Evaluation of NT-proBNP was important for detection of LVDD in COPD patients, which was correlated with disease severity. Echocardiographic assessment of COPD patients, especially in combination with NT-proBNP can be considered as good diagnostic tools of LVDD in COPD. Treatment outcome and predictors of better response to thyroxin in hypothyroid patients with sleep apnea syndrome in Zagazig University hospital
Conclusions Some hypothyroidism patients with OSA will improve on hormonal therapy alone but other will continue to need CPAP. Neck circumference, free T4 and TSH levels may help us in predicting the response of these patients. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Mannose binding lectin in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis: Active and inactive
Conclusion MBL is possibly related to increased susceptibility to tuberculosis. Its levels were nearly the same in both active and inactive tuberculous patients. There is a direct relation between levels of MBL and disease extension. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Study of serum vitamin D level in adult patients with bronchial asthma
Conclusion There is an important association between adult bronchial asthma and vitamin D deficiency or even insufficiency. A strong correlation between the serum vitamin D level and asthma severity and control was found. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Respiratory adverse effects of Sofosbuvir-based regimens for treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus
Conclusion Sofosbuvir-based regimens used for treatment of chronic HCV infection are considered safe with minor respiratory adverse effects. However, larger multicenter studies are required for further assessment. Graphical abstract (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Correlation between CAT score, inflammatory markers and pulmonary function tests in patient with acute exacerbation of COPD
Conclusions CAT score provides a reliable score of exacerbation severity as determined by lung functions but CRP and plasma fibrinogen are nonspecific markers for assessment of exacerbation severity. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)
