Accuracy of gray scale and color Doppler sonographic mapping in diagnosis of pneumonia in adult
Conclusions Lung ultrasound imaging for the detection of pneumonia is highly accurate. Based on our results, LUS is a valid alternative for the diagnosis of pneumonia. By combined qualitative and quantitative impedance measurement, PA and bronchial artery (BA) can be differentiated from each other. Flow pattern of pulmonary arteries which was found in most of our cases was an indicative of benign lesions. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Effect of comorbidities on response to pulmonary rehabilitation in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Conclusions Pulmonary rehabilitation can be offered to COPD patients from different severity stages. Comorbidities occur very commonly in patients with COPD and their presence worsens the baseline functional status in these patients which makes them more liable to achieve larger benefits from PR. Clinical characteristics and outcome of ICU admitted MERS corona virus infected patients
Conclusions Most MERS corona patients present with fever, cough, dyspnea, sore throat, runny nose and sputum. The presence of abdominal symptoms may indicate bad prognosis. Prolonged duration of symptoms before patients’ hospitalization, prolonged duration of mechanical ventilation and hospital stay, bilateral radiological pulmonary infiltrates, and hypoxemic respiratory failure were found to be strong predictors of mortality in such patients. Also, old age, current smoking, smoking severity, presence of associated co-morbidities like obesity, diabetes mellitus, chronic heart diseases, COPD, malignancy, renal failure, re...

Role of neopterin among COPD patients
Conclusions This study found increased neopterin serum and sputum levels among COPD patients and suggests a role for neopterin in the pathogenesis of COPD. We recommend larger studies to support our results. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Easy blood gas analysis: Implications for nursing
Publication date: Available online 10 December 2015 Source:Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis Author(s): Hanan Mohammed Mohammed, Dalia Abdallah Abdelatief Arterial blood gas analysis is a common investigation in emergency departments and intensive care units for monitoring patients with acute respiratory failure. It also has some applications in general practice, such as assessing the need for domiciliary oxygen therapy in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. An arterial blood gas result can help in the assessment of a patient’s gas exchange, ventilatory control and acid–base b...

Demographic and clinical characteristics of pulmonary hypertension cases and the awareness of the disease among chest physicians in Abassia Chest Hospital
Conclusion In conclusion the study provides information on the clinical and epidemiological features of PH in Egypt as a primary pilot study. It highlights the fact that awareness about the disease is still lacking among physicians and/or health care providers and late detection continues to be a threat for optimum management of PH. Clinical impact It unveiled the urgent need for a large scale registry not only national but also regional using uniform diagnostic criteria based on the latest published guidelines. Is toll like receptor 4 a common pathway hypothesis for development of lung cancer and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis?
Conclusion Our results support that TLR4 pathway may be a common contribution to both diseases. There was association between distant metastasis and TLR4 expression. Further studies are needed to evaluate the TLR4 prognostic value for tumor progression and its expression in precancerous lesions. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Study of the level of stem cell factor in patients with bronchial asthma
Conclusion This study demonstrated that the serum level of SCF was higher in asthmatic patients especially among eosinophilic phenotype than among healthy control subjects. Also there was a significant association between higher SCF and higher levels of asthma severity, sputum and blood eosinophil%. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Receptor of advanced glycation end products in childhood asthma exacerbation
Conclusion Serum RAGE is elevated during acute asthma exacerbation in children. High levels above 1733.5pg/mL can expect poor response to initial therapy at emergency room and need for hospitalization with sensitivity and specificity and a specificity of 90.5% and 83.35% respectively.
