Association between anti-thyroid peroxidase and anti-cytokeratin 18 autoantibodies and bronchial asthma in women
Conclusion Positive anti-TPO autoantibodies and anti-CK18 autoantibodies in asthmatic patients and their higher level in the non-allergic asthma group may strengthen the presence of a hidden autoimmune phenomenon in non-allergic asthma. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Lung ultrasound as early diagnostic tool in neonatal respiratory distress syndrome (RDS)
Conclusions Chest ultrasound cannot replace standard chest X ray in diagnosing potential causes of neonatal respiratory failure because of its tendency to over-diagnose RDS, but useful for excluding RDS and as a screening method for diagnosis of RDS. Efficacy of split night CPAP titration in moderate and severe obstructive sleep apnea syndrome patients
Conclusion Split night sleep study is more commonly associated with unsuccessful CPAP titration than full night titration but successful titration could be obtained during split night titration in patients with severe AHI >36.5event/h. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Utility of multidetector row computed tomography and virtual bronchoscopy in evaluation of hemoptysis due to lung cancer
Conclusion MDCT angiography is a useful and non invasive method that allows a rapid and detailed identification of abnormal vasculature responsible for hemoptysis in patients with lung cancer. MDCT-generated virtual bronchoscopy is an accurate, and non invasive method for evaluating obstructions, endoluminal masses, and external compressions in patients with hemoptysis due to lung cancer. Role of interleukin-6 in diagnosis of pleural effusion
Conclusion Effusion IL-6 could be used to differentiate between exudate and transudate and serum IL-6 could be used as an alternative non invasive method for differentiation between exudates and transudate as there was a significant positive correlation between serum IL-6 and effusion IL-6. Utility of multidetector row computed tomography in the management of hemoptysis: An experience from Upper Egypt
Conclusion Our results confirm that MDCT angiography is a useful method to identify and depict the bronchial arteries and to predict the presence of nonbronchial systemic vessels that supply a parenchymal lesion. MDCT angiography allows a rapid and detailed identification of abnormal vasculature and provides a precise road map which can be used to guide therapeutic arterial embolization. Diagnostic value of inducible protein-10 in pulmonary tuberculosis
This study was carried out on 20 apparently healthy subjects (group I), 20 active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) patients (group II) and 20 latent TB patients (group III). They were matched in age and sex. Group II were sub-classified into three subgroups according to the radiological extent of the pulmonary lesion into: (Minimal, moderately advanced and far advanced lesions). Blood samples were obtained and the determination of serum IP-10 levels by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay methods were done (Sandwich) ELISA. Tuberculin skin test (TST) was significantly higher in group II and III compared to group I and it was signi...

The arrhythmic burden in patients with sarcoidosis. Is it a real concern?
Conclusions Holter monitoring provides a useful, convenient and inexpensive mean of non-invasive screening for cardiac involvement in sarcoidosis especially in patients without cardiac symptoms. Extended holter should be a part of the routine work-up of any patient with sarcoidosis. The exact effect of steroid therapy on the arrhythmia burden remains a matter of debate. Cardiac MRI should be done to all patients with sarcoidosis having either abnormal symptoms or abnormal basic screening tools especially abnormal holter. Study the level of sputum matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tissue inhibitor metaloprotienase-1 in patients with interstitial lung diseases
This study aimed to examine the changes in induced sputum as regards MMP-9, TIMP-1 and levels of inflammatory cells in ILD patients compared with sputum of healthy non smokers. Subjects and methods Thirty subjects were included in this study and were classified into the following two groups: Group I included twenty patients diagnosed clinically, radiologically and physiologically as interstitial lung diseases. Group II included ten healthy non smoker subjects. Sputum induction was done and processed to assess matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1(TIMP-1) and cytological examination w...

Radiological findings in patients with H1N1 influenza pneumonia
Conclusion The predominant radiological pattern in H1N1 pneumonia is bilateral GGO and alveolar consolidation. In the CXR, the opacities were basal and midzonal while in the chest CT were peripheral and peribronchovascular with diffuse zonal involvement. Chest CT is more sensitive than CXR in diagnosing doubtful cases and in showing different patterns of opacities. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)
