Frequency of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and the effect of nasal continuous positive airway pressure
Conclusion (1) A high risk for OSA development is more frequent in GERD patients especially NERD ones and who experience nighttime symptoms, (2) there is a mutual relationship between OSA and GERD reinforcing each other, and (3) CPAP therapy has a good role in the treatment of both OSA and GERD symptoms. Chondrosarcoma of right 1st rib presenting as neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome; A 13th case report in world literature
We report a case of chondrosarcoma of right 1st rib causing neurogenic TOS that was resected via posterolateral thoracotomy and biopsy confirmed a grade I chondrosarcoma. In the treatment of chondrosarcoma, chemotherapy and radiotherapy are less effective, and appropriate surgery is needed. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Sputum–plasma ratio of soluble receptor for advanced glycation end-products in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
Conclusions sRAGE level either in induced sputum, plasma or sputum plasma ratio is not significantly different between stable COPD patients, smokers and healthy controls. Thus, sRAGE cannot be considered as a marker of either diagnosis or severity of COPD. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

The role of tumor necrosis factor alpha in differentiation between malignant and non malignant pleural effusion
Conclusion Pleural fluid level of TNF-α can be used in differentiating malignant from non malignant effusion. Also levels of TNF-α in the serum and pleural fluid could be useful as a complementary marker in the differential diagnosis of two most common types of exudates (tuberculous and malignant). The role of supplementary vitamin D in treatment course of pulmonary tuberculosis
Conclusion Vitamin D accelerates the improvement observed in vitamin D supplemented TB therapy. Vitamin D is safe when added to anti-tuberculous drugs. Vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency is common among TB patients. Further studies are required to validate this observation and define a cut off of vitamin D level to prevent immunological alterations. Role of continuous positive airway pressure in patients with combined sleep apnea syndrome without congestive heart failure
Conclusion CPAP can be effective in combined obstructive and central apnea patients without heart failure with consideration of individual variability. A trial of CPAP titration should be done in those patients. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Gender differences in polysomnographic findings in Egyptian patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome
Conclusion In Egyptian patients with OSA, although females had higher BMI as compared to males, males had more severe disease as indexed by AHI. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Immediate continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy after sleeve gastrectomy
Conclusion The use of immediate CPAP after sleeve gastrectomy in morbidly obese patients is effective in improving oxygenation, spirometric values, reducing atelectasis and decreasing postoperative pulmonary complications. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Diagnostic performance of trans-thoracic sonography in patients of pneumonia and pulmonary embolism
Conclusions Lung profiles that can be detected using TUS can perform well to some extent as a rapid diagnostic technique among patients with pneumonia and pulmonary embolism. TUS seems to be superior to chest X-ray in the diagnosis of pneumonia. However, TUS failed to discriminate between pneumonia and pulmonary embolism on studying their parenchymal lesions. Nasal lavage fluid nuclear factor kappa B and cytology in asthmatic children and their correlation with severity and control
Conclusions Despite that spirometry and clinical classification are the gold standards for grading of asthma, Nasal lavage NFκB and cells can be considered as a new less-invasive non-subjective inflammatory marker for assessment of different grades of asthma severity and control. Study of pharmacotherapy role in smoking cessation giving an insight into the frequency of smoking among Zagazig University Hospitals’ staff in 2013
Conclusion (1) Programs promoting smoking cessation including behavioral therapy in addition to the complementary role of pharmacotherapy (Bubropion SR) enhanced the chance of success in smoking cessation. (2) This pilot study (regarding the number of the studied individuals) pointed to the smoking dilemma in a locality where smoking behavior should be brought to a minimum especially among physicians.
