Drug susceptibility profiles of Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates from Gulbarga, South India
Conclusions High level of drug resistance observed in new cases for isoniazid, rifampicin and ethambutol suggests need for the implementation of drug resistance surveillance studies in order to document the success of the tuberculosis control program in reducing the level of drug resistance. Alteration in cervical spine mechanics in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome patients
Conclusion In OSAS patients, there was a significant association between alterations in cervical spine mechanics, severity and positional dependency. Cervical lordosis, but not the atlas angle, was a significant negative predictor of severity and positional dependency. Further studies are needed to validate these results and to study the effect of improving spinal curvature and angular rotation on severity and positional dependency in OSAS patients. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) in upper Egypt, a single center study
Conclusion IPF in upper Egypt has a different age and sex distribution compared to international data. Domestic air pollution, indoor exposures or other environmental factors may account for this difference. Lack of local resources for lung biopsy and lack of national guidelines for IPF may also account for this difference. It is highly recommended to establish a national database for patients with IPF in order to plane for national guidelines. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

A study on the role of rivaroxaban in management of venous thromboembolism
Conclusion and recommendation Rivaroxaban is a rapid onset of anticoagulant that can be given in fixed doses without routine monitoring. It can replace injectable anticoagulants as an initial treatment in management of patients with mild venous thromboembolism as it is suitable as regard the economic and the health status of the Egyptian patients. Searching for the least invasive parameters used as predictors of survival in idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension
Conclusion The most significant parameter affecting survival was depression score using PHQ-9. It was also observed that the highest mortality was in the first year of diagnosis although it was not statistically significant. Thus, a wider scale study is needed for the idiopathic pulmonary hypertension patients to better assess their survival pattern. (Source: Egyptian Journal of Chest Diseases and Tuberculosis)

Role of thoracoscopic pleural lavage and brush in undiagnosed exudative pleural effusion
Conclusion Combined thoracoscopic pleural specimens (forceps biopsy, brush and lavage) increase the diagnostic yield of medical thoracoscopy for patients with undiagnosed exudative pleural effusion than separate them. Thoracoscopic pleural brushing is a safe diagnostic technique as it can brush certain dangerous areas of the pleura. Pleural lavage is more diagnostic than the initial thoracentesis. Pleural fluid CRP, LDH, and pH as predictors of successful pleurodesis in malignant pleural effusions
Conclusion High CRP, high LDH and low PH in MPEs have a poorer outcome of pleurodesis. So, it may be advantageous when selecting patients for pleurodesis to include in their routine tests, the initial pleural fluid CRP, LDH and PH levels.
