Turkish dermatologists' approach for chronic spontaneous urticaria: A questionnaire based study
ConclusionOur study showed that the therapeutic management of Turkish dermatologists was parallel to the European Urticaria Guidelines. The high utility of omalizumab as a third line regimen improved patient care. Nevertheless there is a need for centers experienced in urticaria to refer antihistamine-resistant patients where third-line treatment options can not be implemented. (Source: Dermatologica Sinica)

Knowledge and attitudes towards vitiligo in the general population: A survey based on the simulation video of a real situation
ConclusionsMisconceptions about vitiligo in this study seems to be higher than previous reports. This may be due to the visualized based questionnaires instead of asking from the word ‘vitiligo’ directly. Therefore, educational knowledge about disease recognition, causes and mode of transmission should be encouraged for public. (Source: Dermatologica Sinica)

Sun-related risk factors, perceived seriousness of disease and accompanying non-melanoma skin cancer in patients with actinic keratoses
ConclusionThis is the first study evaluating sun-related risk factors, knowledge and perceived seriousness of disease and SCE findings of AK patients in Turkey. Our results indicate that national health awareness campaigns and skin cancer scanning programs should be developed especially for the patients under the sun-related risks of AKs and NMSC occurrence. Coexistence of adult-onset actinic prurigo and shampoo dermatitis: A case report
Publication date: June 2018Source: Dermatologica Sinica, Volume 36, Issue 2Author(s): Tsung-Ju Lee, Yu-Hung Wu, Pa-Fan Hsiao, Mei-Eng TuAbstractActinic prurigo is a rare and acquired idiopathic photodermatosis. It usually shows childhood onset and female predominance. Here, we present an unusual case of a male patient with coexistence of adult-onset actinic prurigo and shampoo-induced allergic contact dermatitis. He was initially diagnosed with actinic prurigo. However, after detailed examination of the distribution of the rash, careful collection of his history, and interpretation of the results of histopathologic analysi...

Phenotypic diversity of the recurrent p.Val379Leu missense mutation of the TGM1 gene
Publication date: June 2018Source: Dermatologica Sinica, Volume 36, Issue 2Author(s): Adrienn Sulák, Kornélia Tripolszki, Katalin Farkas, Márta Széll, Nikoletta NagyAbstractAutosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis type 1 (ARCI1), a clinically heterogeneous group of keratinization disorders, develops due to mutations in the transglutaminase 1 (TGM1) gene. Here we report a Hungarian pedigree affected by the lamellar ichthyosis clinical form of the ARCI1 phenotype. Direct sequencing revealed two recurrent heterozygous mutations: a splice site (c.877-2A > G) and a missense (c.1135G > C, p.Val379Leu) mutation. This spl...

Cutaneous angiosarcoma–A report of 20 Taiwanese patients
Publication date: Available online 12 June 2018Source: Dermatologica SinicaAuthor(s): Yi-Hsin Chan, Fu-Nien Hsieh, Li-Yu Lin, Julia Yu-Yun Lee, Chao-Chun YangAbstractAngiosarcoma is a rare soft tissue sarcoma of poor prognosis. A retrospective single-center study was conducted to characterize cutaneous angiosarcoma. Twenty patients were enrolled. The mean age was 76 years and male to female ratio 3:1. Ninety percent had primary angiosarcoma. Scalp was the most commonly involved site. Metastatic disease was noted in 20% when angiosarcoma was diagnosed. Median overall survival time was 20 months. In this single center series...

Caveolin-1 expression in hyperproliferative skin disorders: A potential predictive marker of disease severity and progression
ConclusionCaveolin-1 downregulation may increase the susceptibility to both benign and malignant hyperproliferative skin disorders. It could be useful as predictive biomarker of disease severity and progression. (Source: Dermatologica Sinica)

Psoriasis in Taiwan: From epidemiology to new treatments
Publication date: Available online 29 June 2018Source: Dermatologica SinicaAuthor(s): Hsien-Yi Chiu, Ting-Shun Wang, Po-Hua Chen, Shao-Hsuan Hsu, Ya-Chu Tsai, Tsen-Fang TsaiAbstractPsoriasis is a common, chronic immune-mediated disorder that occurs worldwide. The prevalence of psoriasis in Taiwan is lower than that in Caucasian countries. Nevertheless, an increasing trend in the prevalence of psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis has been observed in Taiwan over the past decade. Accumulating studies have also suggested that psoriasis is not a disease limited to the skin and joints but has far-reaching systemic effects, associa...

An unusual histopathologic feature of angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma – A case report and molecular study
We present a case of AFH diagnosed via molecular confirmation by fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) and also review cases of AFH with atypical histologic presentations in Taiwan. We present this case to remind clinicians that identification of gene fusions by molecular testing is a valuable diagnostic tool for AFHs, especially in cases with atypical histopathological presentations.
