Skin care services and disease prevalence in Taiwan: A nationwide study
ConclusionDermatologists play major roles in providing skin care services in Taiwan. This finding might be partially explained by the weak role of primary care physicians and the perceptions of patients toward dermatologists and nondermatologists in Taiwan. (Source: Dermatologica Sinica)

A case of aquagenic urticaria with a brief review of the literature
Publication date: Available online 1 February 2018Source: Dermatologica SinicaAuthor(s): Yung-Chiang Chen, Wen-Hsin Hsu, Chun-Ming Sun, Chao-Hong LiuAbstractAquagenic urticaria, a type of physical urticaria, is quite rare and only about 50 cases have been reported in the medical literature. It was first described by Shelley and Rawnsley in 1964. Blue rubber bleb nevus syndrome associated with adult-onset cutaneous lesions and spontaneous intracranial hemorrhage: A case report and literature review
We describe a 72-year-old Taiwanese man with BRBNS. Besides typical adult-onset cutaneous lesions, he had venous malformation in the central nervous system, which caused massive intracerebral hemorrhage. He has been in a stupor ever since. Physicians should recognize cutaneous BRBNS lesions early and be aware of the possible complications that arise from internal organs involved. (Source: Dermatologica Sinica)

Cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis-a case report with novel compound heterozygous mutation of CYP27A1 gene
In this study, we report one 34 year-old Taiwanese man who developed bilateral xanthomas on Achilles tendon and progressive neuropsychiatric disorder. DNA sequencing revealed novel compound heterozygous mutation of CYP27A1 gene, 1072C > T (Gln358X) in exon 6 and c.496–497, 503–514 deletion in exon 1. Early diagnosis of CTX is crucial because treatment with chenodeoxycholic acid in time may prevent or improve neurological dysfunction. (Source: Dermatologica Sinica)

Excellent color-matched repigmentation of human vitiligo can be obtained by mini-punch grafting using a machine in combination with ultraviolet therapy
Publication date: Available online 14 February 2018Source: Dermatologica SinicaAuthor(s): Tomohisa Hirobe, Hisao EnamiAbstractA new method is reported here for treatment of vitiligo by using mini-punch grafting using a machine (mMG) in combination with ultraviolet light B (UVB) therapy. After UVB had been repeatedly irradiated to the lesional facial skin of a patient for 1 month, many mini-punch grafts were removed from the lesional skin and the same numbers of punch biopsies taken from normal scalp skin were placed into the holes of the recipient skin. Repigmentation started soon, and excellent color-matched repigmentatio...
