Turkish dermatologists' approach for chronic spontaneous urticaria: A questionnaire based study
Conclusion Our study showed that the therapeutic management of Turkish dermatologists was parallel to the European Urticaria Guidelines. The high utility of omalizumab as a third line regimen improved patient care. Nevertheless there is a need for centers experienced in urticaria to refer antihistamine-resistant patients where third-line treatment options can not be implemented. (Source: Dermatologica Sinica)

Cutaneous protothecosis reminiscent of unilateral solar elastotic bands of forearm in an immunocompromised patient
We report a case of cutaneous protothecosis due to Prototheca wickerhamii in an elderly male with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), decompensated liver cirrhosis, diabetes mellitus, hypertension and coronary artery disease, who presented with a large dull erythematous plaque over right upper limb stretching from the lower third of the distal upper arm to near the wrist. A biopsy revealed marked, band-like solar elastosis in the upper dermis, a pathologic pattern that resembles solar elastotic bands of forearm. However, the following Periodic acid–Schiff stain and fungal culture confirmed the diagnosis of protothecosis. Our...

Neonatal lupus erythematosus presenting as Stevens-Johnson syndrome
Publication date: Available online 9 October 2017 Source:Dermatologica Sinica Author(s): Ren-Feng Liu, Wen-Hung Chung, Chin-Yi Yang, Fang-Ying Wang, Chun-Bing Chen Neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE) is a rare acquired condition caused by the transplacental passage of maternal autoantibodies. It is characterized by cutaneous, cardiac, hepatobiliary, hematological and neurological involvement. Cutaneous findings of NLE are variable, but few reports in the literature describe the presence of erosions or epidermal loss in NLE. Herein, we describe the case of an infant with NLE presenting as Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS...

Sleep quality and disturbances in patients with dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa
Conclusions DEB patients showed a greater degree of sleep disturbances that can be influenced by depressive symptoms, anxiety symptoms, and pain compared with controls. Therefore, they should be screened for sleep issues that can be possibly impacted by pain and mood disorders. (Source: Dermatologica Sinica)

Cutaneous lymphomas in Taiwan: A review of 118 cases from a medical center in southern Taiwan
Conclusion Compared to other larger Western and Asian series of primary CLs, our series showed higher proportions of CTCLs and MF. Over 80% of MF was early MF, a finding consistent with the trend in early diagnosis of MF in recent decades. A nation-wide study is warranted to further characterize CLs in Taiwan. Fever, eosinophilia, and abnormal liver function are early signs suggestive of DRESS: A comparative study between DRESS and MPE
Conclusion Although DRESS and MPE look similar, especially in the early stage of DRESS, the concurrence of fever, peripheral blood eosinophilia, and abnormal liver functions within three days of visiting a medical facility might aid in the early diagnosis of DRESS. (Source: Dermatologica Sinica)

Is dermatological lilac really lilac?
Conclusion Our results might be explained by the color contrast phenomenon. In other words, a human may discern a verging towards lilac from an object not colored such by comparing its color to that of its background, so he may perceive this color. (Source: Dermatologica Sinica)

Phenotypic diversity of the recurrent p.Val379Leu missense mutation of the TGM1 gene
Publication date: Available online 20 September 2017 Source:Dermatologica Sinica Author(s): Adrienn Sulák, Kornélia Tripolszki, Katalin Farkas, Márta Széll, Nikoletta Nagy Autosomal recessive congenital ichthyosis type 1 (ARCI1), a clinically heterogeneous group of keratinization disorders, develops due to mutations in the transglutaminase 1 (TGM1) gene. Here we report a Hungarian pedigree affected by the lamellar ichthyosis clinical form of the ARCI1 phenotype. Direct sequencing revealed two recurrent heterozygous mutations: a splice site (c.877-2A > G) and a missense (c.1135G > C, p.Val379Leu...

The relationship of pentraxin-3 levels with IL-17, fetuin-A, insulin in patients with Beh çet's disease
Conclusions Similar to CRP, PTX-3 is an acute-phase reactant that is considered an inflammatory and atherosclerotic biomarker. This study showed that PTX-3 levels can increase, similar to IL-17, but no relationship was detected between disease activity and coronary risk factors such as serum lipids, glucose intolerance and obesity. This was a cross-sectional study; therefore, the patients should be followed in long-term studies to determine whether higher PTX levels in BD patients are associated with a higher incidence of cardiovascular disease.
