Clinical Importance of Histopathological Inflammation in Patients with Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms Due to Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia: A Prospective Study of 222 Patients
Objective:To investigate the relationship between the severity of histopathological prostatic inflammation with lower urinary tract symptoms and prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels. Methods:We prospectively included 222 consecutive patients eligible for transurethral resection of the prostate in a non-academic referral center by a single surgeon. Patients with proven urinary tract infection or prostate cancer were excluded. Preoperative assessment included PSA levels, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), mean peak flow, mean resected prostate weight and post-residual volume. Finally, the presence and severity of ...

The Advantages of Transurethral Resection of the Prostate in Patients with an Elevated or Rising Prostate Specific Antigen, Mild or Moderate Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms, Bladder Outlet Obstruction and Negative Prostate Cancer Imaging or Prostate Biopsies: A Prospective Analysis in 105 Consecutive Patients
Conclusion:BOO can cause an elevated or rising PSA in patients with minor LUTS and negative screening for prostate cancer. Transurethral resection of the prostate is an adequate treatment for these patients.Curr Urol 2016;10:140-144 (Source: Current Urology)

Nucleotide Transition 390C-T in the Wilms' Tumor 1 Gene: A Risk Factor of Hypospadias?
Conclusion:Nucleotide substitution 390C-T may play a role in the pathogenesis of non-syndromic hypospadias. The genotype-phenotype correlation should be confirmed by a larger-scale analysis.Curr Urol 2016;10:136-139 (Source: Current Urology)

Outcomes of Ureteral Stent Placement for Hydronephrosis in Patients with Gynecological Malignancies
Conclusion:Ureteral stent placement was associated with a poor prognosis in patients with gynecological malignancies. There were a few cases in which stent withdrawal became possible due to the improvement of hydronephrosis. In such cases, the withdrawal rate varied according to the cause and obstructive level.Curr Urol 2016;10:126-131 (Source: Current Urology)

Low-Risk Prostate Cancer and Tumor Upgrading in the Surgical Specimen: Analysis of Clinical Factors Predicting Tumor Upgrading in a Contemporary Series of Patients Who were Evaluated According to the Modified Gleason Score Grading System
Conclusion:Patients diagnosed with low-risk PCa at biopsy are a heterogeneous population because they include subsets with undetected high-grade disease. Significant clinical predictors of upgrading include the PSA value and P+. In low-risk PCa, we identified a high-risk upgrading subgroup that needed repeat biopsies in order to reclassify the tumor grade and to reassess the clinical risk category.Curr Urol 2016;10:118-125 (Source: Current Urology)

The Management of Unplanned Erection during Endoscopic Urological Surgery
Penile erection at the time of urological surgery is a rare but problematic event which can delay, complicate or even lead to the cancellation of planned surgery. Erection may occur irrespective of the type of anesthetic method employed. Several techniques for treatment of this troublesome complication have been described in the literature, all with varying levels of success and potential adverse effects. In our experience over the last 25 years, we have found that intracavernous injection of ephedrine into the penis has a 100% success rate in safely producing detumescence with minimum side effects and should therefore be ...

Emergent Embolization of a Very Late Detected Pseudoaneurysm at a Lower Pole Subsegmental Artery of the Kidney after Clampless Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy
We reported a case of a renal artery pseudoaneurysm occurred about four months after a clampless laparoscopic PN. A 49-year-old female underwent a clampless laparoscopic PN for a right renal tumor with high surgical complexity. The patient experienced an intraoperative blood loss from renal bed and the surgeons performed a deep medullary absorbable suture. Three months after surgery the patient underwent a renal ultrasonography with good results. The patient came to our emergency department 115 days after surgery with a hypovolemic shock stage 3. Her CT scan showed a pseudoaneurysm of a lower pole vessel of the right kidne...

Inflatable Penile Prosthesis Insertion in Men with Severe Intracorporal Fibrosis
Conclusion:IPP insertion into scarred corpora is difficult and occasionally impossible. We have developed a standardized surgical approach for these cases, using limited corporal excavation, followed by the use of sequential Uramix and then Carrion-Rossello cavernotomes, that we feel has improved our chance of a successful implant. However, due to the rarity of these cases, it is not possible to make definitive statements concerning the optimal surgical technique.Curr Urol 2016;10:92-96 (Source: Current Urology)
