Is vitamin D deficiency associated with using veil in female garment workers?
Conclusions A need of vitamin D can be obtained from sunlight. Therefore it is suggested that the garment provide an opportunity for the garment workers to do exercise in the morning so that the workers can get sunlight prior to working. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Disease)

Isolation and characterization of dipropyl-, S-propyl ester from Exiguobacterium mexicanum (MSSRF-S9) against larvae of malaria and dengue vectors
Conclusions The results of the bacterial extract of E. mexicanum are promising as potential larvicidal compound against the mosquito vectors (An. culicifacies and Ae. albopictus). Therefore, this study provides first report on the larvicidal activity with dipropyl-, S-propyl ester compound from India. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Disease)

Evaluating correlation between serum liver enzymes and toxocariasis: a case control study
Conclusions It was concluded that the liver enzyme alteration is not the valid indicator for predicting toxocariasis. Because the kind of liver dysfunction, that is caused by the larvae of Toxocara, is unspecified, and it seems factors such as the number of larvae can play a basic role for the emergence of alterations. Ameliorative antimalarial effects of the combination of rutin and swertiamarin on malarial parasites
Conclusions The results of the in vitro and in vivo study clearly indicate that the combination (1:1) of rutin and swertiamarin showed potential antimalarial activity rather than an individual of each and their combinations 1:2 and 2:1. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Disease)

Molecular detection of Anaplasma species in questing ticks (ixodids) in Ethiopia
Conclusions The results demonstrated the presence of several Anaplasma spp. including the zoonotic A. phagocytophilum and potentially zoonotic A. ovis. Our finding identified potential vectors of A. ovis to be further confirmed. However, an extended study is needed to identify the potential vectors of A. phagocytophilum. The variety of Anaplasma spp. indentified in this study suggests risks of anaplasmosis in animals and humans in the country. (Source: Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Disease)

Roll of hemagglutinin gene in the biology of avian influenza virus
Publication date: June 2016 Source:Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Disease, Volume 6, Issue 6 Author(s): Soltanialvar Masoud, Ali Bagherpour, Farshad Akbarnejad The hemagglutinin (HA), the major envelope glycoprotein of influenza, plays an important role during the early stage of infection, and changes in the HA gene prior to the emergence of pathogenic avian influenza viruses. The HA protein controls viral entry through membrane fusion of the viral envelope with the host cell membrane and allows the genetic information released to initiate new virus synthesis. Sharp antigenic variation of HA remains the critic...

Epidemiological study of cutaneous leishmaniasis in southwest of Iran during 2001–2011
Conclusions Epidemiological parameters such as age, gender, occupation, season, residence (urban, rural) and lesion location in endemic regions have had significant effects on the prevalence of CL in Susangerd county and the findings can be effective for assessing disease prevention programs. In addition, CL might become a serious dermatological health problem in the near future due to a great population movement to the neighboring country Iraq with a high incidence to an endemic area. A 5-year period (2010–2014) retrospective study of human cutaneous leishmaniasis in Ahvaz County, southwest of Iran
Conclusions In this study 59.1% of patients were males and this may due to their job, more contact with Leishmania vectors and wearing fewer cloths. Most of the lesions were placed in hands, feet and face. Therefore the necessity of choosing the appropriate clothing, using mosquito nets seem to be important. Stem cells and cancer: A review
Publication date: May 2016 Source:Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Disease, Volume 6, Issue 5 Author(s): Najeeb Ullah, Sana Liaqat, Saira Fatima, Farheen Zehra, Memoona Anwer, Maniha Sadiq Stem cells are the small units of multicellular creature. Regeneration and self-renewal are the ability of the stem cells. Each tissue is having particular stem cells, specific to it. These normal stem cells are converted into cancer stem cells through mutations in it. Although the expression of oncogenes is enhanced a lot, the tumor-supressing gene is lessened. Cancer stem cells are isolated and visualized through diffe...
