“I’m too old to think five years ahead”. Parent carers of adult children with intellectual disabilities in Sweden
This article analyses eight parents’ stories about living with their adult children with intellectual disabilities. They discuss their daily lives and future thoughts concerning their children's living situation. The analysis is conducted from a perspective in which age is seen as a social practice and power structure. The parents in this study violate several norms through their choices. Their daily lives continue to be characterized by the adult children's needs and activities. Rehabilitation in momentum of Norwegian coordination reform: From practices of discipline to disciplinary practices
This article applies a critical discourse analysis of interviews with rehabilitation professionals, investigating the way they talk about rehabilitation, and the ways their language use produces utterances, concepts, and affects their practices. This article presents the findings of a research about disability costs conducted in the province of Quebec, Canada. It also addresses issues related to social policy. Our findings encompass a wide variety of life activities experienced by different categories of disabled people and their families. Using this qualitative framework, we surveyed over two hundreds types of expenses, but three domains came out strongly: housing, health or personal care, and transportation.
