Ann Koopman: In Memoriam
We sadly note that former JEFFLINE Editor Ann Koopman passed away on Friday, December 20th, 2013 from complications relating to pulmonary hypertension. Ann came to Scott Memorial Library in 1995 as a Reference Librarian and served as the principal architect and longtime editor of JEFFLINE, the library’s website. She performed those roles with exceptional energy and enthusiasm even in the face of the escalating health challenges that eventually caused her to take disability leave from Jefferson in 2012. Milestone: Over 100 MPH Capstones Archived in the Jefferson Digital Commons
Since 2009 the Jefferson School of Population Health (JSPH) has archived all capstone presentations in the Jefferson Digital Commons. The latest round of presentations brought the total inventory to over 100 capstone presentations in the MPH degree track. In addition, JSPH is also archiving capstone presentations from the Master of Science in Health Policy, and Healthcare Quality and Safety (MS-HQS) capstone presentations. F1000Research now visible on PubMed and PubMed Central
The Open Access life-sciences journal F1000Research was launched earlier this year and more than 300 articles have been published using their innovative model. They post articles within a week of submission and then subject them to an open peer-review process. Now, articles that receive at least 2 ‘Approved’ statuses from the referees, or 1 ‘Approved’ status plus 2 ‘Approved with Reservations’ statuses will appear in PubMed and PubMed Central. Digitised Diseases: 3D Bone Resource
New from Jisc in the UK: Digitised Diseases is an open access resource featuring human bones which have been digitised using 3D laser scanning, CT, and radiography. The resource focuses on a wide range of pathological type specimens from archaeological and historical medical collections, specifically examples of chronic diseases which affect the human skeleton for which many of the physical changes are often not directly observable within clinical practice. RefWorks Group Code Eliminated for Off-Campus Logins
As of December 11th, 2013, RefWorks users will no longer be required to enter a group code when logging in to their RefWorks account off-campus or outside of the Thomas Jefferson University IP range. PubMed Central (PMC) Releases New ID Converter
PMC has just released an upgrade to the ID converter, now dubbed the PMCID – PMID -Manuscript ID – DOI Converter (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/pmctopmid/). This utility allows you to start with the unique identifier for an article that is in PMC, and find additional unique identifiers that may apply to the article. Improvements include support for DOIs, auto-detection of the ID type based on its format, and enhanced output. It also provides output in any of several different formats: HTML, XML, JSON, or CSV. Color Printing Now Available From Scott 2nd Floor Computers
Color printing is now an option if you’re using one of the Library’s PCs or Macs on 2nd floor of Scott. The black & white printer (named SML 2nd Floor Xerox) is still the default, so you’ll need to select the new color printer (named HP_Color_LaserJet_SML2…) from the Print Dialog Box (see below) to print your document in color: Color printing costs 25 cents per page.
