Dr. Gertrude Scott Galloway: Activist, Educator & Torchbearer
The National Association of the Deaf (NAD) bids farewell to one of its iconic leaders, Dr. Gertrude “Gertie” Scott Galloway, who passed away at the age of 83 on July 17, 2014 in Austin, Texas. Dr. Galloway is a genuine trailblazer – she accomplished many firsts throughout her civic and professional endeavors.

The NAD-RID Reputable Agency Task Force (RATF) would like you to share your experiences working with interpreting agencies! Have you been receiving emails from agencies outside your local area asking you to provide interpreting services? Have you been contacted by spoken language agencies who are unfamiliar with sign language interpretation? Have you had any issues with agencies who have hired you for assignments? Have you had difficulties in getting paid for services provided? Do you work with fabulous interpreting referral agencies? What are they doing right?

June 2014 #NADHandwave
Felice Marcus is a mainstream schoolteacher at the Indian Pines Elementary School. She has tremendous passion as shown through her teaching experience for more than 25 years! Her dedication to making sure other deaf children got an education is amazing given that Felice herself grew up in public schools with little accommodations and no access to sign language.
She previously taught at The Learning Center and Lexington School for the Deaf, and took on her current position as a K-2 teacher at a public school when she needed to move to south Florida to take care of her mother.

Maryland Deaf Related Bills Passed
Earlier this month, Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley signed two historical bills into law. One is the Deaf Cultural Digital Library (DCDL) bill in which the Division of Library Development and Services (DLDS) of the Maryland State Department of Education is required to establish as the primary information center on deaf resources for library customers and staff in the state.
