A Randomized Controlled Trial Provides Evidence to Support Aromatherapy to Minimize Anxiety in Women Undergoing Breast Biopsy
This study was conducted in women undergoing image‐guided breast biopsy. We explored the use of two different aromatherapy scents, compared to placebo, aimed at reducing anxiety with the intent of generating new knowledge. MethodsThis was a randomized, placebo‐controlled study of two different types of external aromatherapy tabs (lavender‐sandalwood and orange‐peppermint) compared with a matched placebo‐control delivery system. Anxiety was self‐reported before and after undergoing a breast biopsy using the Spielberger State Anxiety Inventory Scale. Results and FindingsEighty‐seven women participated in this s...

Evidence ‐Based Practice Beliefs and Implementation in Doctor of Nursing Practice Students
ABSTRACT BackgroundDoctors of Nursing Practice focus on leadership in evidence‐based practice (EBP). EBP is influenced by one's beliefs in and implementation of EBP. Little is known to date about the EBP beliefs and implementation of Doctor of Nursing Practice students and outcomes of Doctor of Nursing Practice education. AimsGuided by the Advancing Research and Clinical practice through close Collaboration (ARCC) Model, the Evidence‐Based Practice Beliefs (EBPB) and Implementation (EBPI) tools were used to assess the impact of EBP as a program pillar, curricular thread, and content area on EBPB and EBPI of Doctor of N...

Interventions Promoting Breast Cancer Screening Among Turkish Women With Global Implications: A Systematic Review
ABSTRACT BackgroundBreast cancer is a major health concern and remains the most common malignancy in women worldwide and in Turkey. Mammography, clinical breast examination (CBE), and breast self‐examination (BSE) are recommended methods to detect early breast cancer in women. Many strategies have been developed to increase the rates of mammography, CBE, and BSE among Turkish women. Despite the benefits of breast cancer screening, these modalities are still underutilized by the majority of Turkish women. AimTo systematically review the scientific evidence on the effectiveness of various strategies aimed at improving scre...

The Relationship of Physiopsychosocial Factors and Spiritual Well ‐Being in Elderly Residents: Implications for Evidence‐Based Practice
This study results confirm the effect of physiopsychosocial factors on institutionalized older adults’ spiritual well‐being. However, the presence and level of functional disability do not necessarily influence spiritual well‐being in late life unless it is disruptive to social relationships and is thus bound to lead to low perceived social support and the onset of depression. Linking Evidence to ActionThe findings address the fact that the practice of spirituality is multidimensional and multileveled. Psychosocial interventions for institutionalized elders with disabilities should focus on increasing nurse‐patient...

Sustaining Nurse ‐Led Task‐Shifting Strategies for Hypertension Control: A Concept Mapping Study to Inform Evidence‐Based Practice
This study's findings highlight the importance of examining nurses’ perceptions of factors likely to influence the sustainability of evidence‐based, task‐shifting interventions. Nurses’ perceptions can guide the widespread uptake and dissemination of these interventions in resource‐limited settings. (Source: Worldviews on Evidence-Based Nursing)

Nurses ’ Attitudes Toward the Single Checking of Medications
ABSTRACT Background and AimThe policy of single over double checking of medications has been adopted by many health services; however, nurses’ attitudes toward single‐checking medications remains unclear. The aim of this study was to explore the attitudes of nurses who single check and administer medications in a setting where single checking has been in place for over a decade. MethodsA cross‐sectional survey design using the validated Single Checking Administration Medication Scale‐II to registered nurses (n = 299) working in one metropolitan teaching hospital in Victoria, Australia. Descriptive analyses for part...

The Effectiveness of Exercise in Adults With Systemic Lupus Erythematosus: A Systematic Review and Meta ‐Analysis to Guide Evidence‐Based Practice
Abstract BackgroundFatigue is the most common and unpleasant symptom of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). However, there is limited information regarding how exercise affects fatigue. AimsThe purpose of this study is to review and synthesize the current knowledge concerning the effectiveness of exercise training for treating fatigue among adults with SLE. The characteristics of beneficial exercise training are further evaluated. MethodsWe conducted a systematic review and meta‐analysis. The databases searched were MEDLINE, CINAHL, PEDro, Cochrane Library, Scopus, and PQDT from their inception to February ...

Implementation of Evidence ‐Based Practice From a Learning Perspective
ConclusionAchieving a more EBP depends on both adaptive and developmental learning, which involves both forming EBP‐conducive habits and breaking clinical practice habits that do not contribute to realizing the goals of EBP. Linking Evidence to ActionFrom a learning perspective, EBP will be best supported by means of adaptive learning that yields a habitual practice of EBP such that it becomes natural and instinctive to instigate EBP in appropriate contexts by means of seeking out, critiquing, and integrating research into everyday clinical practice as well as learning new interventions best supported by empirical eviden...

Effectiveness of an Online Educational Module in Improving Evidence ‐Based Practice Skills of Practicing Registered Nurses
ABSTRACT BackgroundImplementation of evidence‐based practice (EBP) at the bedside has been difficult to achieve. Significant gaps between current research and actual practice have been identified and must be addressed in effort to increase utilization of EBP. AimsThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of an online EBP educational intervention and to examine the relationship between educational preparation and years of nursing experience on nurses’ practice, attitudes, and knowledge and skills of EBP. MethodsAn experimental pretest‐posttest design study with three randomized groups utilizing the EBPQ i...
