Establishing a new staging system for oral submucous fibrosis and correlation of the proposed staging system to traditional histopathological grading: A clinico-histopathological study
ConclusionWith the data obtained from our study, the following clinical staging pattern can be adapted: stage I indicates that the PRMO is <30%, stage II 30–40%, and stage III>45%. Hence it may be appropriate to asses the disease severity and stage by assessing the degree of disability (i.e., mouth opening reduction considering the individual normal mouth opening ability). The determination of PRMO may be a useful tool in this direction. (Source: The Saudi Dental Journal)

Comparative evaluation of Gingival Crevicular Fluid (GCF) levels of Interleukin-34 levels in periodontally healthy and in patients with chronic and aggressive periodontitis- A cross-sectional study
Publication date: Available online 27 March 2019Source: The Saudi Dental JournalAuthor(s): Parichaya Batra, Sushma Das, Poonam PatelAbstractBackground and objectivesProinflammatory cytokines appear to have a central role in the destruction of periodontal tissues. By binding to Receptor Activator of Nuclear Factor κb (RANK) on osteoclast progenitor cells, these cytokines are locally responsible for the activation of bone resorbing osteoclasts differentiation and function. Interleukin-34 (IL-34) is a proinflammatory cytokine derived from the osteoblasts and plays an important role in osteoclastogenesis. The present study wa...

Evaluation of Pre-Alginate Impression Preparation Methods in the Surface Accuracy of Dental Cast
ConclusionsUse of pre-preparation technique of finger smearing and saliva ejector prior to alginate impressions resulted in significant reduction of surface nodules/blebs and enhanced the quality and accuracy of fabricated casts. Therefore, the use of saliva ejector, finger smearing on the occlusal surface of teeth and smoothening of alginate impression, immediately prior to intra-oral placement is clinically recommended. Anatomical variations and bilateral symmetry of roots and root canal system of mandibular first permanent molars in Saudi Arabian population utilizing cone- beam computed tomography
ConclusionsWithin the limitation of this study, wide range of canals configurations were noted in mandibular first molars among the Saudi Arabian population. The prevalence of three rooted mandibular first molars was relatively low. Three canals were most commonly seen in mandibular first molars. Bilateral symmetry was varied in number of canals and canals configurations, which could be of clinical significance while performing root canal treatment on both side mandibular first permanent molars. An improved dental composite with potent antibacterial function
Publication date: Available online 26 March 2019Source: The Saudi Dental JournalAuthor(s): Rashed Almousa, Xin Wen, Gregory G. Anderson, Dong XieAbstractA new BisGMA-based antibacterial dental composite has been formulated and evaluated. Compressive strength and bacterial viability were utilized to evaluate the formed composites. It was found that the new composite exhibited a significantly enhanced antibacterial function along with improved mechanical and physical properties. The bromine-containing derivative-modified composite was more potent in antibacterial activity than the chlorine-containing composite. The modified ...

Evaluation of telescopic tooth-supported overdentures regarding surrounding supporting structures case study
ConclusionTelescopic overdentures have better retention and stability as compared to complete dentures, they improve the chewing efficiency and the comfort of the patient and they also decrease the alveolar bone resorption. According to the result, in this case, the attachment level in the patient mouth and bone change in height or width by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), and the patient was satisfied from the denture and grateful.
