The effect of surgical regenerative treatment for peri-implantitis: a systematic review
ConclusionAll studies included showed an improvement in clinical conditions after surgical regenerative treatment for peri-implantitis. However, no study has shown any statistical significance in its approach. There is a lack of scientific evidence in literature regarding which type of bone substitute has superiority in the treatment of peri-implantitis, as well as the role of barrier membranes, methods for detoxification of implant surfaces and antimicrobial prescriptions. For these reasons further well-designed RCTs are recommended. (Source: The Saudi Dental Journal)

Influence of teeth anatomical characteristics on the efficacy of manual toothbrushing manoeuvres
ConclusionBoth tested techniques were effective in plaque removal in the anterior maxillary arches. However, the research for the anatomical factors influencing the amount of efficacy of the toothbrushing manoeuvres was inconclusive. We can hypothesise that the adoption of one adequate technique could be more important than the teeth characteristics. (Source: The Saudi Dental Journal)

Rotational relapse of anterior teeth following orthodontic treatment and circumferential supracrestal fiberotomy
ConclusionPost-treatment rotational relapse of anterior teeth subjected to CSF was minimal and statistically insignificant after 1 year of follow-up. This validates the promising results of CSF when combined with appropriate mechanical retention for an adequate period. (Source: The Saudi Dental Journal)

Effects of Salivary pH on Coating Durability of Two Different Aesthetic Archwire Coatings Under a Simulated Intraoral Environment
This study compared the effects of normal salivary pH, and acidic pH found in patients with poor oral hygiene, on the durability of aesthetic archwire coated with epoxy resin and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE).MethodsThe posterior parts of the archwires were sectioned into 20 mm segments (N=102) and divided among six groups. Four groups were treated with different pH levels and two served as controls. The specimens were immersed in individual test tubes containing 10 ml of artificial saliva adjusted to a pH of 6.75 or 3.5. The tubes were sealed and stored in a 37°C water bath for 28 days. After 28 days, the specimens were...

A Cross-Sectional Study of the Prevalence and Severity of Maxillofacial Fractures Resulting from Motor Vehicle Accidents in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
ConclusionsMVAs were the main cause of trauma and affected mainly young males. The most common site of fracture was midface, specifically orbit. Subcondylar was the most prevalent fracture site for mandibular fractures. The severity of MVAs injuries was significantly higher compared to non-MVAs injuries. We suggest enforcing legislation and regulations on road safety such as the use of compulsory seat belts. (Source: The Saudi Dental Journal)

Titanium particles: an emerging risk factor for peri-implant bone loss
ConclusionsSignificant overexpression of the cytokine RANKL was observed, with a trend for over-expression of IL-33 and TGF-B1 in areas with titanium. Further studies with large sample size and appropriate control group for quantification analysis is needed to confirm the role of titanium particles in initiating bone loss.
