Late toxicity for prostate cancer patients treated with hypofractionated helical tomotherapy
ConclusionsHypofractionated HT can be delivered safely with limited rates of moderate and severe late toxicity. The proportion of the rectum that receives a moderate and high dose, having comorbidities, and PSA at diagnosis seem to associate with long term toxicity. Use of the g-index for assessment of citation-based scholarly activity of United States radiation oncology residents and subsequent choice of academic versus private practice career
ConclusionRadiation oncology resident graduates published on average a minimum of seven manuscripts cited at least 49 times. PhD-degree graduates had significantly higher g-index scores, as did residents choosing academic over private practice careers. There was no significant gender-related difference in g-index score regardless of career choice. The majority of academic careers are produced from programs graduating at least three residents. Estimation of tumor and local tissue dose in gold nanoparticles radiotherapy for prostate cancer
ConclusionsAccording to the MCNP results, 198AuNPs are a promising modality to treat prostate cancer and other cancers and 199AuNPs could be used for imaging purposes. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)

Analysis of pre-residency research productivity, dual degree status, and gender distribution of underrepresented minorities among a current United States radiation oncology junior resident class
ConclusionUnderrepresented minorities were comparable to the remainder of their Radiation Oncology resident class regarding gender distribution, dual degrees status, and likelihood of having at least two peer-reviewed publications cited in PubMed during the calendar year of residency application. Further studies will be needed to determine how these findings translate into future scholarly activity and post-graduate career choice. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)

On the use of AAA and AcurosXB algorithms for three different stereotactic ablative body radiotherapy (SABR) techniques: Volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and 3D conformal radiotherapy (3D-CRT)
ConclusionThis study showed that the treatment planning results obtained using the Acuros XB algorithm was better than those using the AAA algorithm in SABR lung radiotherapy. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)

Enhanced dermatologic toxicity following concurrent treatment with palbociclib and radiation therapy: A case report
ConclusionThis case highlights the importance of using caution when combining radiation with the new targeted therapies. Until more data becomes available, physicians are recommended to exercise clinical judgment when deciding on whether to continue or discontinue a CDK4/6 inhibitor in a patient who may need radiation. Adaptive radiotherapy in patients receiving neoadjuvant radiation for soft tissue sarcoma
ConclusionsChange in soft tissue sarcoma volume during radiation is not uncommon. Image guidance should be used to reduce setup errors and to detect differences in tumor volume. Image guidance and adaptive radiation are paramount to ensure optimal radiation delivery. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)

Validation of dose distribution computation on sCT images generated from MRI scans by Philips MRCAT
ConclusionsThe dose calculation accuracy on MRCAT was not significantly compromised in the majority of clinical relevant DVH points. The introduction of MRCAT into practise would eliminate systematic errors, increase patients’ comfort and reduce treatment expenses. Institutions interested in MRCAT commissioning must, however, consider changes to established workflow. (Source: Reports of Practical Oncology and Radiotherapy)

Calculation and measurement of doses in the surface layers of a phantom when using Tomotherapy
ConclusionThe analysis of results showed that the relative percentage difference between measured and planned dose in the field of irradiation was less than 10%, while the largest differences were on the board of the field of radiation and outside of the field of irradiation, where the dose was 0.08 Gy to 1 Gy. Management of interruptions in radiotherapy treatments: Adaptive implementation in high workload sites
Publication date: March–April 2019Source: Reports of Practical Oncology & Radiotherapy, Volume 24, Issue 2Author(s): Gustavo Pozo, Maria Angeles Pérez-Escutia, Ana Ruíz, Alejandro Ferrando, Ana Milanés, Eduardo Cabello, Raul Díaz, Alejandro Prado, Jose Fermin Pérez-RegaderaAbstractOwing to predictable or unpredictable causes, interruptions may arise during therapy. On average, the extension of fractionated radiotherapy treatments is prone to be delayed by several weeks and interruptions can come up extending overall treatment time (OTT). Clonogenic cells of aggressive tumors might benefit from this situation, modify...
