Restorative treatment of crown fracture in lateral incisors with a direct composite resin stratification technique
Publication date: August–December 2013 Source:Pediatric Dental Journal, Volume 23, Issues 2–3 Author(s): Josué Martos , Carina Folgearini Silveira , Luiz Fernando Machado Silveira The coronal fracture is an unexpected occurrence and requires professional preparation and an urgent approach. The classification of these traumas are classified like enamel fracture, enamel/dentin or enamel/dentin/pulp. Thus, a coronal fracture involving non-complicated enamel and dentin might receive different types of treatment, such as reattachment of fragments or restoration with composite materials. The aim of this article was t...

Traction of the lower second premolar by application of band-loop space maintainer in an autistic child
Publication date: August–December 2013 Source:Pediatric Dental Journal, Volume 23, Issues 2–3 Author(s): Tomonori Hoshino , Kan Saito , Taku Fujiwara A band-loop space maintainer, with a hook attached at the tip of the loop, was used to induce eruption of the lower right second premolar that slanted toward the root of the neighboring permanent first molar in an 11-year-old autistic child with intellectual disability. The band-loop space maintainer, which was originally not widely used, was designed to make the second premolar upright by applying traction by using the orthodontic elastic that was set up on a hook...

Development of the Japanese version of the Child Perceptions Questionnaire (CPQ8–10_JP)
Publication date: August–December 2013 Source:Pediatric Dental Journal, Volume 23, Issues 2–3 Author(s): Hiroyuki Yamada , Hiroko Miura , Yoshie Usui , Tsutomu Sato The purpose of this study was to develop a Japanese version (_JP) of the Child Perceptions Questionnaire for 8–10-year-old children (CPQ8–10). CPQ8–10 was translated into Japanese by a forward–backward translation method. Its reliability was investigated among 228 elementary school children who were examined clinically for the status of dental caries, plaque accumulation, and malocclusion. Internal reliability was confirmed by a Cronbach's a...

Subjective ratings and autonomic responses to dental video stimulation in children and their mothers
Publication date: August–December 2013 Source:Pediatric Dental Journal, Volume 23, Issues 2–3 Author(s): Arisa Koda , Hiroyuki Karibe Children's fear of dental procedures could be related to their parents' attitude toward these procedures. To investigate this relationship, we compared subjective ratings and autonomic responses to dental and neutral video stimulation in children to the ratings and responses of their mothers. We selected 24 healthy children (12 girls and 12 boys; average age, 9.8 years) and their mothers (average age, 42.6 years). During video stimulation using scenes of dental drilling, vacuum suc...

Accuracy of a non-contact 3D measuring system for dental model analysis
Conclusion Our non-contact 3D measuring system showed high reliability on repeated measurement of study models, suggesting that the accuracy of model analysis by 3D scanner is equivalent to that of direct measurement of plaster models by digital caliper. (Source: Pediatric Dental Journal)

Determination of H-file sizes being more suitable for measuring of working length in immature teeth using an EAL
This study aimed to find the sizes of H-files that are more suitable for root canal length measurements of immature teeth using Apit 11®. Extracted human immature permanent teeth were prepared to have accesses to their pulp cavities, and the root canal length of each tooth was measured physically and electronically using H-files, rular and Apit 11® in the in vitro experimental system. Six types of file diameters that are generally utilised in the clinic were used to take measurements in order to observe the relationship between the position of the file tip and the meter-indicated area. The results suggest that, of the H...

Study on factors that affect caries susceptibility in mice
We examined temporal changes in stimulated saliva secretion volume in B6 and C3H mice, and found that secretion volume was significantly higher in C3H mice than in B6 mice even at 30 min after stimulation, and that total saliva volume was significantly higher in C3H mice. In addition, histological comparisons of the submandibular gland in the two strains revealed the ratio of acinar cells area to be significantly higher in C3H mice than in B6 mice. We then examined the gene expression of the muscarinic acetylcholine receptors M1R, M2R and M3R, which are thought to be regulatory factors of water secretion from acinar cells...

A primary study on feeding behaviors of autism model rat pups in the weaning period
This study aimed to identify appropriate measures to address behavioral characteristics associated with eating and feeding in children with ASD by examining feeding behavior throughout the weaning period in rat pup models of autism. Male Sprague–Dawley (SD) rats and healthy SD rats were nursed with their mothers until 14 days after birth. Then, the pups were divided into the following three groups and related in separate cages without their mothers: group A, two model rats; group B, a model rat and a control rat; and group C, two control rats. The number of meals ingested together and the number of body contact made with...
