Prenatal vitamin D and enamel hypoplasia in human primary maxillary central incisors: A pilot study
Conclusions Preliminary results suggest follow-up of children of mothers in a vitamin D supplementation RCT during pregnancy provides an important approach to study the etiology of EH in the primary teeth. Further study is needed to discern thresholds and timing of maternal serum 25(OH)D concentrations during pregnancy associated with absence of EH in teeth that develop in utero. Potential dental public health implications for prevention of early childhood caries via sound tooth structure as related to maternal vitamin D sufficiency during pregnancy need to be determined. Parental presence in the operatory: An update
Publication date: Available online 29 August 2016 Source:Pediatric Dental Journal Author(s): Lance E. Kisby The purpose of this paper is to present an update on the current views of dentists and parents on the controversial issue of the parent in the dental operatory. In the past, parents were excluded from the operatory because it was felt a parent would be disruptive. This position is no longer valid due to a better understanding of fear in children, a greater acceptance by dentists to have the parent present, and an increased interest of parents to be present. By understanding the evolving cultural, legal, and social...

Effects of pre-reacted glass-ionomer cement on the viability and odontogenic differentiation of human dental pulp cells derived from deciduous teeth
This study investigated the effects of cement-containing surface reaction-type PRG filler (PRG cement) on the viability and differentiation of human dental pulp cells derived from deciduous teeth (hDPC-Ds). Other materials generally used for pulp capping, Dycal and Fuji glass-ionomer cement Type II, were also tested by culturing hDPC-Ds with the extract of each material. The viability of hDPC-Ds was measured by methyl-thiazol-tetrazolium [3-(4, 5-di-methylthiazol-2-yl)-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide] assay. Odontogenic differentiation of hDPC-Ds was evaluated by alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity and immunocytochemistry...
