Dental development in Down syndrome and healthy children: a comparative study using the Demirjian method
ConclusionThe findings showed that dental development in DS children is similar to the development of control children and that a relationship exists between hypodontia and dental development. The clinically observed late eruption is probably not due to late dental development but due to the other processes that take place during eruption, such as the possible impaired processes at the apical side and the occlusal side of an erupting element. Registration of serial maxillary models via the weighted rugae superimposition method
ConclusionConsidering the variable stability of rugae points during growth, the weighted rugae superimposition method results in more promising registrations on serial models. This method prioritizes registration landmarks based on clinical criteria of choice and is suitable for analysis of other structures such as tooth movements. Three ‐dimensional assessment of condylar position and joint spaces after maxillary first premolar extraction in skeletal Class II malocclusion
ConclusionsPosterior positioning of the condyle after orthodontic extraction and incisor retraction may occur, but its clinical significance requires further assessment in future studies. (Source: Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research)

Visual perception of faces with unilateral and bilateral cleft lip and palate: An Eye ‐Tracking Study
ConclusionThe hypotheses of the study were supported. Orthodontists and laypersons focused more attention on the upper lip and eyes in the resting position, respectively. The upper‐lip area of the BCLP images captured more attention at rest. (Source: Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research)

Local myogenic pulp ‐derived cell injection enhances craniofacial muscle regeneration in vivo
ConclusionThe epigenetic modification of pulp cells from extracted premolars and the local injection of myogenic pulp cells may stimulate craniofacial muscles regeneration in vivo. (Source: Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research)

The effect of potassium diclofenac and dexamethasone on MMP ‐1 gene transcript levels during experimental tooth movement in rats
ConclusionsThe application of orthodontic forces significantly increased MMP‐1 transcript levels. The use of anti‐inflammatory drugs may have an inhibitory effect on MMP‐1 expression. (Source: Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research)

Phonetic analysis during treatment with rapid maxillary expander
ConclusionRapid maxillary expansion causes a slight phonetic change in the acoustical parameters of both consonants and vowels. The two‐arm Hyrax caused less speech impairment than the four‐arm Hyrax during the treatment. (Source: Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research)

Subjective and objective evaluation of frontal smile esthetics in patients with facial asymmetry —a comparative cross‐sectional study
ConclusionsAttractiveness or unattractiveness of smiles in patients with facial asymmetry could not be predicted by any measurement of Smile Mesh. The presence of facial asymmetry did not significantly influence the perception of smile esthetics. (Source: Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research)

Craniofacial morphology in pediatric patients with Prader –Willi syndrome: a retrospective study
ConclusionsPediatric patients with PWS seem to have a general reduction in certain craniofacial skeletal parameters (i.e., maxillary and mandibular length) compared to controls, but this study did not assess the overall craniofacial characteristics. (Source: Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research)

Effect of 5% benzocaine gel on relieving pain caused by fixed orthodontic appliance activation. A double ‐blind randomized controlled trial
ConclusionBenzocaine gel caused a decrease in pain perception at 2 h compared with placebo gel. Peak pain intensity was at 2 h for placebo gel and at 6 h for benzocaine gel, followed by a decline in pain perception from that point to day 7 for both gels. Effects of different orthodontic retention protocols on the periodontal health of mandibular incisors
ConclusionAn association was found between orthodontic retention groups and GCF biomarker levels, which should be further explored in longitudinal studies. The presence of retainers bonded to all anterior teeth seems to increase plaque accumulation and gingivitis. (Source: Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research)

Relationship between the cranial base and the mandible in artificially deformed skulls
ConclusionsDeformity of the cranial vault exerts an influence on the mandible, supporting the theory of modular units in complete integration. This also supports the theory that mandibular prognathism is a multifactorial result and not a direct effect of displacement of the cranial base. (Source: Orthodontics and Craniofacial Research)
