Abstract
Based on the observation of a patient with a causal relationship between hyperparathyroidism and development of both autoimmune disease and paraproteinemia, we hypothesize a novel cause of autoimmunity triggered in the context of hyperparathyroidism.

Symptom-modifying effect of chondroitin sulfate in knee osteoarthritis: a meta-analysis of randomized placebo-controlled trials performed with structum(®).
CONCLUSION: These results demonstrate that this chondroitin sulfate preparation (Structum®) is effective on symptoms in patients with OA of the knee compared to placebo, and may therefore have a role in the management of patients with knee osteoarthritis of Kellgren-Lawrence grades II and III.

Combined structural and synovial assessment for improved ultrasound discrimination of rheumatoid, osteoarthritic, and normal joints: a pilot study.
CONCLUSION: A novel structural and synovial hand joint scoring system was capable of distinguishing OA and healthy controls from RA subjects in this pilot evaluation. Prospective validation of this approach is planned.

Musculoskeletal health professional use of internet resources for personal and patient education: results from an online national survey.
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first national survey of E-learning in the musculoskeletal health profession, with a large proportion of Rheumatologists. Almost all use computer based learning. Use of the internet for patient education is low. Highly rated educational websites are available for both professionals and patients.

Personality and fibromyalgia syndrome.
CONCLUSION: No specific fibromyalgia personality is defined but it is proposed that personality is an important filter that modulates a person's response to psychological stressors. Certain personalities may facilitate translation of these stressors to physiological responses driving the fibromyalgia mechanism.

Rituximab (RTX) as an Alternative to TNF-Alpha Antagonists in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis and High Risk of Severe Infections: A Systematic Analysis of the Experience in One Center.
CONCLUSIONS: In this particular high risk population of RA patients, treatment with RTX seems to be an alternative to TNF-alpha-antagonist and has a relatively low rate of recurrent infection.

Foot problems in a group of patients with rheumatoid arthritis: an unmet need for foot care.

The Effect of Stopping Smoking on Disease Activity in Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA). Data from BARFOT, a Multicenter Study of Early RA.
CONCLUSION: Seventeen percent of the RA patients smoked in 2010 in this large Swedish RA cohort. Stopping smoking after onset of RA did not change the poor prognosis of smokers with RA, but all RA patients need to stop smoking because of the high risk of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity and the association of smoking with vasculitis and noduli in RA.
