Management of an iatrogenic injury in a crossed ectopic kidney without fusion.
We present a unique case of a dual injury, renal as well as ureteric, in a crossed ectopic kidney without fusion that was successfully managed without surgical excision. PMID: 25132952 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Korean Journal of Urology)

Open mini-flank partial nephrectomy: an essential contemporary operation.
Authors: Russo P, Mano R Abstract Secondary to the widespread use of the modern imaging techniques of computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and ultrasound, 70% of renal tumors today are detected incidentally with a median tumor size of less than 4 cm. Twenty years ago, all renal tumors, regardless of size were treated with radical nephrectomy (RN). Elective partial nephrectomy (PN) has emerged as the treatment of choice for small renal tumors. The basis of this paradigm shift is three major factors: (1) cancer specific survival is equivalent for T1 tumors (7 cm or less) whether treated by PN or ...

Current status of renal biopsy for small renal masses.
Authors: Ha SB, Kwak C Abstract Small renal masses (SRMs) are defined as radiologically enhancing renal masses of less than 4 cm in maximal diameter. The incidence of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has increased in recent years, which is mainly due to the rise in incidental detection of localized SRMs. However, the cancer-specific mortality rate is not increasing. This discrepancy may be dependent on the indolent nature of SRMs. About 20% of SRMs are benign, and smaller masses are likely to have pathologic characteristics of low Fuhrman grade and clear cell type. In addition, SRMs are increasingly detected in ...

Prognostic factors for urachal cancer: a bayesian model-averaging approach.
CONCLUSIONS: The Mayo staging system might be more effective than the Sheldon staging system. In addition, the multivariate analyses suggested that tumor size may be a prognostic factor for urachal carcinoma. PMID: 25237458 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Korean Journal of Urology)

Pilot study of low-dose nonenhanced computed tomography with iterative reconstruction for diagnosis of urinary stones.
CONCLUSIONS: LDCT showed significant radiation reduction while maintaining high image quality. It is an attractive option in the diagnosis of urinary stones. PMID: 25237459 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Korean Journal of Urology)

Diagnostic efficacy of contrast-enhanced ultrasound for small renal masses.
CONCLUSIONS: Our results suggest that the characteristic CEUS features could have diagnostic value in the evaluation of small renal mass. CEUS showed a higher diagnostic efficacy than conventional US for differentiating RCC and AML. PMID: 25237460 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Korean Journal of Urology)

The real practice of antibiotic prophylaxis for prostate biopsy in Korea where the prevalence of quinolone-resistant escherichia coli is high.
CONCLUSIONS: The AUA recommendation was not followed by most hospitals in Korea. This clinical behavior might reflect the high quinolone resistance rate in Korea, and further studies on the most efficient prophylactic antibiotics after TRUS-Bx in Korea are warranted. Nonresponders to daily paroxetine and another SSRI in men with lifelong premature ejaculation: a pharmacokinetic dose-escalation study for a rare phenomenon.
CONCLUSIONS: Complete absence of paroxetine-induced ejaculation delay is presumably related to pharmacodynamic factors and perhaps to 5-HT1A receptor gene polymorphism. PMID: 25237462 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Korean Journal of Urology)

Effect of improvement in lower urinary tract symptoms on sexual function in men: tamsulosin monotherapy vs. combination therapy of tamsulosin and solifenacin.
CONCLUSIONS: Tamsulosin monotherapy and combination therapy with solifenacin did not improve erectile function despite improvements in voiding symptoms and QoL. The improvement in storage symptoms did not affect erectile function. PMID: 25237463 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Korean Journal of Urology)

Does the modıfıed STING method increase the success rate in the management of moderate or hıgh-grade reflux?
CONCLUSIONS: Endoscopic treatment of VUR is a recommended treatment because it is minimally invasive, efficient, and repeatable. Our study confirmed that a modified STING procedure can be an alternative treatment to the standard technique. PMID: 25237464 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Korean Journal of Urology)

Two different surgical approaches for prostatic stromal sarcoma: robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and open radical cysto-prostatectomy with ileal conduit.
Authors: Choi SH, Kim TH, Yoon GS, Chung SK, Kim BW, Kwon TG Abstract Stromal sarcoma of the prostate is very rare and shows rapid growth, which consequently is related to poor prognosis. Recently, we treated two cases of prostatic stromal sarcoma: one with robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and the other with open radical cysto-prostatectomy with an ileal conduit. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of a prostatic stromal sarcoma managed by use of a robotic procedure. Here, we report of our experiences in the treatment of prostatic stromal sarcoma by use of two diffe...

Renal pelvic urothelial carcinoma with vena caval thrombus mimicking renal cell carcinoma.
Authors: Diaz RR, Kwon JK, Lee JY, Nahm JH, Cho KS, Ham WS, Cho NH, Choi YD Abstract A 61-year-old man presented with a right renal mass with a vena caval thrombus on computed tomography that was consistent with renal cell carcinoma. The results of routine laboratory examinations and urinalysis were within normal limits. Preoperative planning was critical owing to the presence of the vena caval thrombus. A radical nephrectomy, vena caval thrombectomy, and regional lymphadenectomy were done. The pathologic report was consistent with a high-grade, invasive urothelial carcinoma, with sarcomatoid differentiati...
