Intraductal Sonography in Patients With Portal Cavernoma Cholangiopathy
We describe 2 difficult cases of portal cavernoma cholangiopathy in which intraductal sonography helped in clinical management decisions. We think that intraductal sonography should be part of the standard management algorithm for patients with portal cavernoma cholangiopathy and describe the intraductal sonographic correlates of the cholangiographic changes in this condition. Atypical Presentations of Molar Pregnancy: Diagnostic Roles of Imaging, {beta}-Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Measurement, and p57 Immunostaining
In modern practice , the diagnosis of molar pregnancy is made at an early gestational age. The opportunity to diagnose gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD) using sonography alone occurs less frequently. The classic appearance of a "snowstorm" in the endometrial cavity and bilateral theca lutein cysts still applies to the diagnosis of second-trimester GTD. The diagnosis of first-trimester GTD requires increased clinical suspicion. If the sonographic appearance of the pregnancy is atypical, GTD should be included in the differential diagnosis. Additional nonimaging criteria such as serial quantitative β-human chorion...

Contrast-Enhanced Sonographic Follow-up After Stenting of Visceral Artery Aneurysms
We report 2 cases of exclusion of visceral artery aneurysms. The first was a common hepatic artery aneurysm treated with a multilayer stent; the second was a celiac trunk aneurysm excluded by a covered stent. Computed tomographic angiography was performed at regular intervals after each procedure, together with echo color Doppler imaging and contrast-enhanced sonography. Computed tomographic angiography and contrast-enhanced sonography were able to detect endoleaks in both patients and the related inflow vessel; moreover, diameter measurements of the sacs were identical. In our preliminary experience, contrast-enhanced son...

Sonography of Abdominal Pain in Children: Appendicitis and Its Common Mimics
Abdominal pain is very common in the pediatric population (<18 years of age). Sonography is a safe modality that can often differentiate the frequently encountered causes of abdominal pain in children. This pictorial essay will discuss the sonographic findings of acute appendicitis, including the imaging appearance of a perforated appendicitis. It will also present the sonographic features of the relatively common mimics of appendicitis, such as mesenteric adenitis/gastroenteritis, intussusception, Meckel diverticulum, and ovarian torsion. Three-Dimensional Sonography of Axillary Lymph Nodes in Patients With Breast Cancer
Sonography is useful in the evaluation of axillary lymph nodes in patients with breast cancer. In this pictorial essay, we review the range of grayscale and Doppler appearances of abnormal axillary lymph nodes on 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional imaging. (Source: Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine)

Evaluation of Parotid Glands With Real-time Ultrasound Elastography in Children
Conclusions— This study determined the mean strain index values for apparently healthy children. Such information can serve as a baseline from which pathologic parotid diseases can be diagnosed with ultrasound elastography in combination with other sonographic criteria. Clinical Importance and Natural History of Biliary Sludge in Outpatients
Conclusions— Biliary sludge always represents a pathologic process, but its clinical implications among outpatients have not been previously investigated. Our ambulatory population developed pancreaticobiliary complications at similar rates as prior mixed–patient setting studies. Regardless of the patient setting, biliary sludge is likely of more clinical importance than previously regarded. (Source: Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine)

Evanescent Hyperechoic Changes After Fine-Needle Aspiration Biopsy of the Thyroid in a Series With a Low Overall Prevalence of Complications
Conclusions— Fine-needle aspiration biopsy–related complications are rare if preventive measures are performed and are not specific to Japanese patients with thyroid nodules. The sudden appearance of bright hyperechoic foci may be cause by contamination from air or fluid. (Source: Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine)
