Ultrasound Elastography for Distinction Between Parathyroid Adenomas and Thyroid Nodules
Conclusions— Acoustic radiation force impulse imaging has high sensitivity and specificity for differentiating parathyroid adenomas from benign and malignant thyroid nodules. As an adjunctive tool, it can help distinguish parathyroid adenomas from thyroid nodules, including posteriorly located nodules. (Source: Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine)

Reliability of Computer-Assisted and Manual Measurement Methods for Assessment of Graf Type 1 and Type 2 Hip Sonograms
Conclusions— The alpha angle measurements had high concordance with each other for both manual and computer-based methods, whereas the beta angle measurements had low concordance. This information should be taken into account in clinical practice. Overall, the two measurement methods were reliable and consistent with each other. (Source: Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine)

Comparison of Two Injection Techniques for Intra-articular Hip Injections
Conclusions— Use of an automated delivery system for US-guided intra-articular hip injections did not show superior efficiency or patient comfort over traditional syringe injections. Intra-articular corticosteroid injections led to clinically and statistically significant improvements in pain and function for patients with intra-articular hip pain, irrespective of the delivery method. Smoking history and female sex were independent predictors of increased pain associated with intra-articular hip joint injections. (Source: Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine)

Ultrasound-Guided Cervical Facet Joint Injections: A Viable Substitution for Fluoroscopy-Guided Injections?
Conclusions— Although US-guided cervical facet joint injections are feasible, substantial obstacles may prevent their routine use. The main obstacle is to effectively identify and target the correct cervical level in a prone position. (Source: Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine)

Prognostic Predictors of Fertility in Young Adult Patients With Varicocele: Peak Retrograde Flow Velocity and Reflux Grade
Conclusions— The left peak retrograde flow velocity and reflux grade in the standing position were significantly associated with all semen analysis parameters. This finding supports the use of testicular duplex Doppler sonography as a noninvasive tool for evaluation of testicular function in patients with varicocele and helps clinicians determine patients’ fertility status. Application of Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse Imaging for Diagnosis of Female Bladder Neck Obstruction
Conclusions— The bladder neck’s anatomic structure can be observed visually by perineal sonography. Virtual Touch tissue quantification on acoustic radiation force impulse imaging can quantitatively reflect the bladder neck stiffness and change in texture. It could provide a quantitative indicator for clinical diagnosis of female bladder neck obstruction and etiology research and display important clinical values. Effect of Inflammation on Fibrosis Staging Measured by Quantitative Elasticity Parameters in Rats With Immune Hepatitis
Conclusions— Real-time elastography could be used to noninvasively evaluate fibrosis staging in rats with immune hepatitis. However, inflammation had an effect on the accuracy of this technique. (Source: Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine)

Hysterosalpingo-Contrast Sonography With a Saline-Air Device Is Equivalent to Hysterosalpingography Only in the Presence of Tubal Patency
Conclusions— There was a significant degree of agreement between hysterosalpingo-contrast sonography with a saline-air device and hysterosalpingography when the fallopian tube was patent but not when it was occluded. In the absence of patency, further evaluations with hysterosalpingography may be indicated to avoid false-positive results. Although the procedure time and degree of pain appear to be greater, avoidance of radiation exposure by using hysterosalpingo-contrast sonography with a saline-air device may outweigh the drawbacks. Uterine Arcuate Artery Calcification on Transvaginal Sonography May Correlate With Known Risk Factors for Atherosclerosis
Conclusions— Uterine arcuate artery calcification is an incidental finding on transvaginal and transabdominal pelvic sonography, and it is correlated with an abnormal lipid profile and increased thicknesses of the intimal layers of the carotid arteries. We suggest that an incidental finding of arcuate artery calcification during vaginal sonography is a reason to screen for generalized atherosclerosis and related disorders. Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Return: Insights Into Prenatal Detection
Conclusions— Although fetal echocardiography has improved the overall detection of TAPVR or PAPVR, this abnormality continues to elude prenatal diagnosis during screening in both low- and high-risk patients. We hypothesize that the use of color flow Doppler imaging in the 4-chamber view may assist in diagnosing TAPVR in screening low-risk patients, especially in those with difficult scans. Sonographic Characterization of Arterial Dissections in Takayasu Arteritis
Conclusions— Arterial dissections in Takayasu arteritis can involve any anatomic vessel location and have complex morphologic characteristics. Sonography is the optimal technique for diagnosis and follow-up of patients with Takayasu arteritis and dissections. (Source: Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine)

Three-Dimensional Speckle-Tracking Echocardiographic Monitoring of Acute Rejection in Heart Transplant Recipients
Conclusions— Three-dimensional speckle-tracking echocardiography–derived global peak longitudinal strain is a useful parameter for detecting acute rejection; thus, 3D speckle-tracking echocardiography can monitor dynamic and acute rejection (≥1B) in heart transplant recipients. Growth Patterns of Fetal Lung Volumes in Healthy Fetuses and Fetuses With Isolated Left-Sided Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia
Conclusions— Lung volume rates were lower in fetuses with left-sided CDH compared to healthy fetuses, as well as in fetuses with CDH who died compared to those who survived. The observed-to-expected right and total lung volume ratios were relatively constant throughout menstrual age in fetuses with left-sided CDH, suggesting that the origin of their lung growth abnormalities occurred before 20 weeks and did not progress. The observed-to-expected ratios may be useful in predicting the outcome in fetuses with CDH independent of menstrual age. (Source: Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine)
