Role of Calcitonin Gene-Related Peptide in nociception resulting from hind paw incision in rats
Discussion Immunohistochemistry revealed that CGRP was involved in the transmission of nociception. However, blocking its action did not produce a robust antinociceptive effect. (Source: Journal of the Anatomical Society of India)

Volumetric correlation between concha bullosa and paranasal sinuses
Discussion There was a positive correlation between concha bullosa and paranasal sinus volumes. Our results may helpful in understanding normal volumetric values of the paranasal sinuses and concha bullosa. The knowledge of presented data may be useful in clinical planning of medical or surgical interventions of the paranasal sinuses and concha bullosa. A comparative study of pneumatization of Temporal bone
Discussion According to classification of Allam [8],the classical classification. According to this the temporal bone is divided into five regions viz., middle ear, squamomastoid(mastoid), perilabyrinthine, petrous apex and accessory. The cells are named accordingly and they are further classified into various grades by the degree of pneumatization and density of cells present in the respective regionsMost recent work which has been cited in various articles, is done by Han et al. [19] In this pneumatization is classified based on the visualization of various reference structures such as, sigmoid sinus, labyrinth, and inte...

Low dose of melatonin ameliorates cryptorchidism-induced spermatotoxicity in rats
This study investigated the possible ameliorative effect of melatonin on cryptorchidism-induced spermatotoxicity and oxidative stress. Methods Thirty six male Wistar rats were randomised into sham-operated (n=18) and bilaterally cryptorchid (n=18) groups, each of which were subdivided into 3 oral treatment groups (n=6 rats each) that received normal saline, low dose (4mg/kg) and high dose (10mg/kg) melatonin. Results Cryptorchidism reduced sperm parameters, oestradiol, luteinising hormone, follicle stimulating hormone and glutathione peroxidase activity, but increased testosterone and lactate dehydrogenase activity. The ...

Activation of Akt and the signaling of phosphorylated Akt in the L5 Dorsal Root Ganglia in Aging Rats
Conclusion The expression of Akt and pAkt may indicate that increase activity is taking place in the aged neurons. The activation of Akt and its phosphorylation may be one of the mechanisms in response towards aging process. (Source: Journal of the Anatomical Society of India)

A study of interdependence of geometry of the nuchal neck triangle and cervical spine line in the habitual and straightened postures
Discussion An analysis of measurements results based on a triangle represented by three points: two outermost points of the superior nuchal line of the skull and the C7 point are presented. This approach allow to characterize individual positioning of the head in space and is sensitive to many changes in the musculoskeletal system – i.e. the individual way of “standing up straight”. Occipital artery arising from the superior aspect of the carotid bifurcation identified by three-dimensional computed tomography angiography
Publication date: Available online 22 May 2017 Source:Journal of the Anatomical Society of India Author(s): Toshinori Iwai, Toshiharu Izumi, Iwai Tohnai Variation of the branches of the external carotid artery is well known, but it is extremely rare for the occipital artery (OA) to arise from the carotid bifurcation (CB). A 73-year-old man was found to have this anatomical variation on the right side by three-dimensional CT angiography for vascular mapping of the carotid arteries before superselective intra-arterial catheterization. The OA arose from the CB and the inner diameter of the origin of the OA was 1.5mm. The...
