Long ‐term clinical results of bioresorbable absorb scaffolds using the PSP‐technique in patients with and without diabetes
ConclusionsPatients treated with the Absorb BVS using the PSP‐technique show good results up to 3 years with a low rate of scaffold thrombosis. Patients suffering from diabetes mellitus have an increased rate of DoCE compared with non‐diabetic patients. Clinical Trial Registrationclinicaltrials.gov_NCT02162056. Multidisciplinary assessment of PFO with substantial right ‐to‐left shunting and medium‐term follow‐up after PFO device closure: A single‐center experience
ConclusionsPFO closure can be performed safely and effectively in patients with cryptogenic stroke or TIA. In selected patients with substantial RLS, following appropriate multidisciplinary assessment, excellent results with low incidence of recurrent events may be achieved. Real ‐life data regarding acute procedural success and 1‐year clinical outcome of desolve bioresorbable scaffolds
ConclusionsHigh rates of successful scaffold implantations, low rates of peri‐procedural complications, and major cardiac events in long‐term suggest that DESolve scaffolds can safely and effectively be used in daily intervention practice by particularly experienced operators. Intracardiac versus transesophageal echocardiography to guide transcatheter closure of interatrial communications: Nationwide trend and comparative analysis
ConclusionsIntracardiac echocardiogram utilization to guide closure of interatrial communications has plateaued after a rapid rise throughout the 2000s. When utilized to guide interatrial communication closure procedure, ICE is as safe as TEE and does not increase cost or prolonged hospitalizations. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Impaired endothelial function in patients with cryptogenic stroke and patent foramen ovale is not affected by closure
DiscussionEndothelial function did not change after closure of PFO. Although patients were lacking cardiovascular risk factors, a high proportion had impaired endothelial function. Whether ED can have predictive value, identifying PFO at higher risk for recurrent stroke warrants further investigations. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Impact of right and left ventricular systolic dysfunction on perioperative outcome and long ‐term survival after transcatheter aortic valve replacement
ConclusionsPeri‐operative mortality and risk of stroke after TAVR are not adversely affected by preexisting RV or LV dysfunction. Long‐term survival is impaired in patients with RVSD. RVSD but not LVSD is an independent risk factor for late mortality. TAVR should be the preferred therapy for patients with RVSD and LVSD, especially when patient is suitable for TF. The comparative safety of abciximab versus eptifibatide in patients on dialysis undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: Insights from the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Cardiovascular Consortium (BMC2)
ConclusionsDespite being contraindicated in dialysis, eptifibatide was used approximately 3.5 times more frequently than abciximab among dialysis patients undergoing PCI but was associated with similar in‐hospital outcomes. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Contemporary transcatheter aortic valve replacement with third ‐generation balloon‐expandable versus self‐expanding devices
ConclusionsShort‐term outcomes were equivalent between the two technologies. Clinically significant paravalvular regurgitation was rare. SEV were more frequently selected in women and patients with challenging transfemoral access, but were associated with higher permanent pacemaker implantation rate and longer hospital length of stay. Balloon aortic valvuloplasty in contemporary practice
ConclusionBAV is an effective treatment strategy, either as a bridge to definitive therapy or as a palliative procedure, with an acceptable mortality. BAV is associated with a significant improvement in symptoms and is valuable as a palliative treatment in high‐risk patients, where no other invasive option is available. Refined balloon pulmonary angioplasty —A therapeutic option in very elderly patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension
ConclusionThis study demonstrated the safety and efficacy of refined BPA in CTEPH patients aged 75 or over, disqualified from PEA. Refined BPA may emerge as an alternative therapeutic strategy in very elderly CTEPH patients who are suitable for surgery, but this requires further validation in a large prospective study. Comparison of the nephrotoxic effects of iodixanol versus iohexol in patients with chronic heart failure undergoing coronary angiography or angioplasty
ConclusionsIn patients with chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction who are currently undergoing coronary angiography with or without percutaneous coronary intervention, the iso‐osmolar contrast iodixanol was associated with a lower incidence of contrast induced nephropathy than low‐osmolar contrast iohexol.
