Clinical and angiographic outcomes of axial stent deformations in unrestricted real world patient population
ConclusionsAxial stent deformation in Promus Element platform is an infrequent event, occurs following manipulation of the interventional tools. Different patients, different outcomes: A case ‐control study of spontaneous coronary artery dissection versus acute coronary syndrome
ConclusionSCAD affects young females with a paucity of cardiovascular risk factors. The major risk factor for SCAD was a history of anxiety, depression, or neuropsychiatric illness. A conservative approach to SCAD revascularization led to similar MACCE when compared to ACS controls undergoing guideline revascularization at 12 months. Diagnostic accuracy of instantaneous wave free ‐ratio in clinical practice
ConclusionsThis study demonstrates that iFR is a valuable adjunct to FFR using the Hybrid iFR‐FFR strategy in a real‐world population. The use of adenosine may be avoided in about half the cases. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Bivalirudin versus heparin in patients undergoing percutaneous transcatheter aortic valve interventions: A systematic review and meta ‐analysis
ConclusionsIn patient undergoing aortic valve interventions, no difference was seen between the use of bivalirudin and heparin as the procedural anticoagulant agent, except for a significant lower myocardial infarction events when bivalirudin was used. Further large randomized trials are needed to confirm current results. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Effect of patent foramen ovale closure for prevention on recurrent stroke or transient ischemic attack in selected patients with cryptogenic stroke
ConclusionsOur study showed that PFO closure may be an effective treatment strategy to prevent recurrent stroke or TIA for patients with CS if it is conducted in selective patients who have PFO shunt more than moderate grade. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Left atrial appendage occlusion: 2016 in review
A significant body of data has emerged in the area of Percutaneous Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO). In this article, we present an overview of the most notable publications along with a review of the most important publications on LAAO in 2016. We also present important historical data such as landmark clinical studies, review of most utilized occlusion devices, and important clinical studies that are underway. Bioresorbable vascular scaffold to treat in ‐stent restenosis: Single‐center experience
ConclusionsThese real‐world data using BVS in patients with ISR demonstrates that ISR treatment with ABSORB™ BVS is feasible but could have slightly higher target lesion failure rates as compared to DES. This proof of concept could be hypothesis‐generating for larger randomized controlled studies. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Pre ‐loading therapy with statins in patients with angina and acute coronary syndromes undergoing PCI
Statins constitute the most powerful class of drugs for cardiovascular risk reduction associated to atherosclerosis. Their important pharmacological properties include reduction of serum lipid concentrations and non‐lipid related, pleotropic effects such as anti‐inflammatory action. Previous largescale randomized studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of statin loading prior to elective percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for the reduction of periprocedural myocardial infarction and prevention of major adverse cardiac events at 30 days. The present review summarizes the data from major randomized trials ...

A practical guide to cardiovascular 3D printing in clinical practice: Overview and examples
The advent of more advanced 3D image processing, reconstruction, and a variety of three‐dimensional (3D) printing technologies using different materials has made rapid and fairly affordable anatomically accurate models much more achievable. These models show great promise in facilitating procedural and surgical planning for complex congenital and structural heart disease. Refinements in 3D printing technology lend itself to advanced applications in the fields of bio‐printing, hemodynamic modeling, and implantable devices. As a novel technology with a large variability in software, processing tools and printing techniqu...
