Staged versus index procedure complete revascularization in ST ‐elevation myocardial infarction: A meta‐analysis
ConclusionIn patients with ST‐elevation myocardial infarction and multivessel coronary artery disease, a strategy of complete revascularization as a staged procedure compared to index procedure revascularization results in reduced mortality without an increase in repeat myocardial infarction or need for repeat revascularization. High risk of stent thrombosis in the first 6 months after coronary stenting
ConclusionsThis dedicated ST registry shows that ST rates were very high when clopidogrel was discontinued before 6 months after index‐PCI and therefore suggests that clopidogrel discontinuation in the first 6 months after ACS should be avoided. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

In ‐hospital and long‐term outcomes of percutaneous balloon aortic valvuloplasty with concomitant percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with severe aortic stenosis
ConclusionsConcomitant PCI or coronary angiography performed with BAV may not increase the risk of major and vascular complications. Patients with BAV and concomitant PCI may have better survival than patients with BAV and concomitant coronary angiography. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Gender disparities among patients with peripheral arterial disease treated via endovascular approach: A propensity score matched analysis
ConclusionThis study revealed no difference in in‐hospital mortality between males and females undergoing endovascular peripheral intervention. Males have a higher rate of complications compared to females which explains the higher cost of care in males. Further research with long‐term follow up is needed to see if there is any difference with regards to long‐term outcomes and re‐admission. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Prognostic impact of intensive statin therapy on N ‐terminal pro‐BNP level in non‐ST‐segment elevation acute myocardial infarction patients
ConclusionIntensive atorvastatin therapy in non‐ST‐segment elevation myocardial infarction patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention is associated with; lower in‐hospital N‐terminal pro BNP level and higher LVEF after 3 months. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Head ‐to‐head comparison of prasugrel versus ticagrelor in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention: A meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionsAlthough the efficacy was similar between prasugrel and ticagrelor, prasugrel may be associated with a lower risk of bleeding compared with ticagrelor during short‐ to mid‐term follow‐up period after PCI. Further studies are warranted in a larger patient population during longer‐term follow up to validate these findings. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Everolimus ‐eluting bioresorbable vascular scaffold implantation to treat saphenous vein graft disease, single‐center initial experience
ConclusionsThis first real‐world data on the use of the ABSORB™ BVS in patients with SVG disease shows that its implantation is technically feasible. The observed rate of target lesion revascularization was similar to those observed with drug‐eluting stents in similar settings. Larger studies are required to better define the optimal use of BVS to treat SVG disease. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Utilizing intravascular ultrasound imaging prior to treatment of severely calcified coronary lesions with orbital atherectomy: An ORBIT II sub ‐analysis
ConclusionsThere were significantly fewer stents placed, increased post‐OA MLD, and similar 3‐year MACE outcomes in patients with IVUS assessment of the degree of lesion calcification prior to OA as compared to patients with angiographic assessment of the degree of lesion calcification. Further studies are needed to determine the optimal integration of intravascular imaging with OA. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

Age is not a bar to PCI: Insights from the long ‐term outcomes from off‐site PCI in a real‐world setting
ConclusionsThis study demonstrates an acceptable occurrence of MI, death, repeat intervention, and stent thrombosis in a high‐risk group of V. Eld. patients with de novo lesions. Age alone in the absence of other non‐cardiac factors should not prohibit a patient from access to PCI. (Source: Journal of Interventional Cardiology)

ConclusionsIn this “real‐world” cohort of patients with STEMI bivalirudin compared to heparin and GPIs was associated with less bleedings and no significant differences in stent thromboses, reinfarctions, and mortality during hospital and long‐term course.
