Study of the chemical interaction between a high-viscosity glass ionomer cement and dentin
Conclusions The analysis revealed the formation of new compounds or molecular rearrangements resulting from the chemical interactions between GIC and dentin. Moreover, this study provides an effective method to evaluate the dynamics of the setting mechanism of GICs. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Effects of diode laser application on inflammation and mpo in periodontal tissues in a rat model
Conclusions Within the limits of this study, we suggest that diode laser application is an adjunctive treatment because it reduced inflammation and MPO when applied in addition to SRP. On the other hand, more studies are needed for the assessment of the effects of diode laser application to periodontal tissues. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

ERRATUM: Neurosensory analysis of tooth sensitivity during at-home dental bleaching: a randomized clinical trial
Abstract Clear cell odontogenic carcinoma (CCOC) is a rare odontogenic tumor of the jaws, histologically characterized by the presence of agglomerates of cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm. The patient, a 62-year-old Caucasian woman, presented an intraosseous lesion in the mandibular symphysis. A clinical examination revealed a discrete volumetric increase with a hard consistency, palpable to extraoral and intraoral examinations. Imaging studies revealed an extensive radiolucent area, without defined limits, extending from the region of the right second premolar to the left canine. Incisional biopsy analysis indicated a dia...

Effects of hyperbaric oxygen treatment on implant osseointegration in experimental diabetes mellitus
Conclusion Histomorphometry findings suggest that HBO has positive effect on implant osseointegration in the early healing period in diabetic rabbits. However, implant stability is not affected by HBO treatment. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Effects of platelet-rich plasma on human gingival fibroblast proliferation and migration in vitro
Conclusion In this study, perhaps the medium with 5% PRP is the dominant option, promoting the abilities of hGFs to heal wounds, because of its fast and effective impact on cell proliferation, colony formation and migration. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Successful and failed mini-implants: microbiological evaluation and quantification of bacterial endotoxin
Conclusion Neither microbial contamination nor endotoxin quantification was determinant for the early loss of stability of the mini-implants. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Immunohistochemical and mRNA expression of RANK, RANKL, OPG, TLR2 and MyD88 during apical periodontitis progression in mice
Conclusion The expression of the RANK, RANKL, OPG, MyD88 and TLR2 proteins as well as the ratio Tnfrsf11/Tnfrsf11b (RANKL/OPG) increased with AP progression. There was also a moderate positive correlation between the expression Myd88-Tnfrsf11 and Tlr2-Myd88, suggesting the relevance of Tlr2-Myd88 in bone loss due to bacterial infection. Daily melatonin administration improves osseointegration in pinealectomized rats
Conclusion The absence of the pineal gland impaired the bone repair process during osseointegratio n, however the daily melatonin replacement was able to restore this response. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Myofascial trigger points in patients with temporomandibular joint disc displacement with reduction: a cross-sectional study
Conclusions Patients with DDWR and MTrPs had increased pain scores and a MID decrease compared to patients with DDWR and no MTrPs. The variables pain scores, MID, and gender (women) showed a significant association with the concomitant presence of DDWR and MTrPs. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Long-term microwaving of denture base materials: effects on dimensional, color and translucency stability
Conclusions The results indicated that long-term repeated microwaving affects linear dimensional, color and translucency changes of both materials. Differences between PMMA and polyamide material were noted only in dimension and translucency changes. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Maxillomandibular giant osteosclerotic lesions
Conclusions GOLs must be differentiated from other radiopaque benign and malignant tumors. Condensing osteitis, was considered an anomalous osseous response induced by a chronic low-grade inflammatory stimulus. For development of idiopathic osteosclerosis, two possible mechanisms could be related. The first is modification of the normal turnover with excessive osseous deposition. The second mechanism will prevent the normal bone resorption, arresting the osseous breakdown process. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Changes in bacterial number at different sites of oral cavity during perioperative oral care management in gastrointestinal cancer patients: preliminary study
Conclusions Even with regular oral health care, bacterial numbers remained high in the upper incisor tooth gingiva in gastrointestinal cancer patients who received open surgery. Additional procedures are likely needed to effectively reduce the number of bacteria in the gingival area associated with the upper anterior teeth. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Alveolar bone healing in rats: micro-CT, immunohistochemical and molecular analysis
Conclusion Micro-CT showed the newly formed bone had favorable morphometric characteristics of quality and quantity. Beyond the RUNX2, OC, OPN, OST, and RANK proteins expressed in the alveolar bone healing, OPG and RANKL activity showed to be essential for activation of basic multicellular units during the alveolar bone healing.
