The role of potassium channels in the endothelial dysfunction induced by periodontitis
Conclusions: Periodontitis induces impairment in endothelial-dependent relaxation; this impairment recovers, even in the presence of periodontitis. The recovery is mediated by the activation of endothelial calcium-activated potassium channels in ligature animals. Although important for maintenance of vascular homeostasis, this effect could mask the lack of NO, which has other beneficial properties. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Pulp analysis of teeth submitted to different types of forces: a histological study in rats
Conclusions: Pulp tissue alterations resulting from ITM were limited to hemodynamic events, without progressing to irreversible degeneration, regardless of the type of force applied. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Effects of experimental bleaching agents on the mineral content of sound and demineralized enamels
Conclusion: Even though experimental bleaching agents with Ca or F reduced mineral loss for both sound and demineralized enamel surfaces, these agents were unable to reverse the enamel subsurface demineralization. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Quorum sensing LuxS/autoinducer-2 inhibits Enterococcus faecalis biofilm formation ability
Conclusions: Collectively, our studies provide the LuxS gene's key role in controlling biofilm formation of E. faecalis, which presented a negative regulation, and furthermore, providing us a possible way to conquer the persistent apical periodontitis. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

IFN-γR2 is strongly expressed on endothelial cells of gingival tissues from patients with chronic periodontitis
Conclusion: The study of IFN- γ R expression in gingival tissue samples from patients with CP showed an increase only in the IFN- γ R2 chain in endothelial cells when compared to HS. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Volumetric reconstruction and determination of minimum crosssectional area of the pharynx in patients with cleft lip and palate: comparison between two different softwares
Conclusion: Measurements of volume and mCSA are statistically similar between applications. Therefore, open-source applications may be a viable option to assess upper airway dimensions using CBCT exams. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Evaluation of physical-mechanical properties, antibacterial effect, and cytotoxicity of temporary restorative materials
Conclusions These findings suggest the antibacterial effect of the temporary materials Fill Magic and Bioplic against S. mutans, while Luxatemp showed in vitro inhibition of S. mutans biofilm accumulation and E. faecalis growth. Regarding the cell viability test, Luxatemp was the most cytotoxic and Fill Magic was shown to be the least cytotoxic. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)

Relationship between phonological working memory, metacognitive skills and reading comprehension in children with learning disabilities
Conclusion children with learning disabilities presented deficits in phonological working memory and use of metacognitive strategies. The positive and effective correlation between the abilities analyzed suggests that failure in the phonological working memory and use of metacognitive strategies interfere with reading comprehension. Effect of non-surgical periodontal therapy on the degree of gingival inflammation and stress markers related to pregnancy
Conclusions Within the limitations of this study, periodontal therapy significantly improved the periodontal status and stress level. In addition, the severity of the gingival inflammation during pregnancy was related to stress. However, further studies will be needed to substantiate these early findings. The association between periodontal conditions, inflammation, nutritional status and calcium-phosphate metabolism disorders in hemodialysis patients
Conclusions High prevalence and severity of periodontal disease are observed in hemodialysis patients. There is a high probability that periodontal disease may be present at the early stages of chronic kidney disease (CKD) before the hemodialysis onset. (Source: Journal of Applied Oral Science)
