Molecular analysis of translocations associated with Ewing sarcoma: case report
We report the case of a 25-year-old female patient having a large lesion in the right breast. The core biopsy revealed a high-grade fusocellular neoplasm. Immunostains show no evidence of a specific line of differentiation. The patient underwent radical surgery and adjuvant treatment. Due to the immunohistochemical profile and the rosette arrangement in fusocellular injury, a molecular evaluation of translocations associated to the Ewing sarcoma (ES) was made. However, translocations commonly associated with this disease [t(11;22)(q24;q12)] were not observed. The present report can contribute to the diagnostic investigatio...

Fetal anencephaly with umbilical cord attached to cerebrovasculosa area: autopsy report
ABSTRACT Our aim was to report the unusual case of an anencephalic fetus that was born with the umbilical cord attached to its cephalic pole. The patient was a 16-year-old pregnant woman. Ultrasound evaluation at 17 weeks revealed a single fetus without cranial vault and brain parenchyma, compatible with anencephaly. Postnatal evaluation, through an autopsy, was consistent with this diagnosis. Moreover, it was observed that the umbilical cord was attached to the area cerebrovasculosa and there was the presence of a fibrous tissue, suggestive of an amniotic band. We have found only one similar case described in the literatu...

Bronchogenic cyst in an unusual location
This article reports the case of a patient with lingual bronchogenic cyst and presents a brief review of discrepancies in the nomenclature of lingual cysts. A 2-year-old male patient was admitted to the pediatric surgery outpatient clinic of a university hospital due to the presence of a 2 cm mass on the dorsal surface of the tongue. The tumor was excised and the anatomopathological report revealed a foregut cyst, bronchogenic subtype. Lingual cysts are rare, especially when compatible with bronchogenic formations. Their pathogenic process is not clear; one of the possibilities is the separation of cells from the primitive...

Peripheral odontogenic fibroma in the mandibular gingiva: case report
This article reports the case of a 29-year-old woman who presented with a painless, reddish mass in the right vestibular mandibular gingiva between the second premolar and the first molar. Radiographic examination revealed small crestal bone loss in the region. Microscopic analysis revealed a tumor composed of cellular fibroblastic connective tissue intermingled with conspicuous islands and strands of apparently inactive odontogenic epithelium. The final diagnosis was POF. No clinical signs of recurrence were observed 22 months after surgical excision. POF may be clinically mistaken for other common gingival lesions, such ...

Hyperuricemia in Down syndrome children and adolescents
Conclusion: We found a high rate of hyperuricemia in children with DS that equally affects both genders, except in the age range of 13-15 years, in which it was more common among females.RESUMEN Introducci ón: Pacientes con síndrome de Down (SD) perecen tener mayor grado de hiperuricemia, aunque hay pocos estudios que traten esa cuestión.

Polymorphisms in the IL17A gene are not involved in the development of preeclampsia in the Brazilian population
Conclusion: There is no association between the allele frequencies, genotype, inheritance models and haplotypes of the rs4711998 A>G, rs8193036 C>T and rs2275913 A>G polymorphisms of the IL17A gene and PE.RESUMEN Introducci ón: La preeclampsia (PE) se define como hipertensión arterial asociada a proteinuria después de la semana 20 de gestación en mujeres anteriormente normotensas. La interleucina 17ª (IL17A) es un inductor potente de inflamación tisular y polimorfismos del gen IL17A pueden modular la expresión g énica y afectar las funciones de las células Th17, aumentando la susceptibilidad a la PE. A quantitative enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection of anti-double-stranded DNA IgG antibodies
Conclusion: ELISA showed excellent results in terms of sensitivity and specificity, with a potential use in research and routine diagnostics.RESUMEN Introducci ón: La detección de anticuerpos contra el ácido desoxirribonucleico (ADN) de doble cadena (dc) es uno de los criterios de clasificación para el diagnóstico de lupus eritematoso sistémico (LES). Objetivo: Describir una técnica inmunoenzimática (ELISA) cuantitativa para detección de anticuer pos de inmunoglobulina de clase G (IgG) anti-ADNdc. Cytomorphological analysis of cervical cytological smears of women aged over 60 years
Conclusion: The absence of SCJ indicates a diagnostic limitation of sample collection. Although the frequency of lesions has been similar to other studies, and the recommended age range for the examination is between 25 and 60 years, it is important to note that many women older than this range should perform the collection of oncology cytology due to existence of elderly women with risk profile for the disease.RESUMEN Introducci ón: La atrofia cervicovaginal es una condición que puede afectar a las mujeres después de la menopausia, y la citología es una herramienta diagnóstica útil en esos casos. Objetivo: Evaluar...

No sign of disease were evident nine and five months after surgery, respectively. SFT is mostly benign, but can show malignant behavior. Morphologic and immunohistochemical characteristics are essential for diagnosis.RESUMEN Tumor fibroso solitario (TFS) es una neoplasia mesenquimal infrecuen...
