Evaluation of relationship between hematocrit and lipid profile in adults
Conclusion: The relationship between hematocrit and lipid profile in all aspects of this study was more evident in women; nevertheless, the higher proportion of not recommended levels of HDL-C was shown in men. The reverse cholesterol transport probably plays an important role in the increase of cholesterol levels in blood in the presence of high hematocrit, by interaction of HDL-C and erythrocytes. D2-40/podoplanin expression in chronic villitis of the placenta
ABSTRACT D2-40/podoplanin (D2-40/PDPN) is a multifunctional protein that can be expressed in lymphatic endothelium and immune cells. D2-40/ PDPN expression in chronic villitis (CV) has not been studied. Chondroblastic osteosarcoma of the mandible: case report
We report the case of a 32-year-old male patient, who was subjected to cone-beam tomography for planning the removal of an unerupted tooth. Cone-beam CT scans revealed the presence of a mixed lesion with poorly defined limits in the left posterior mandibular region, with "sun-ray" periosteal reaction. An incisional biopsy was performed and the diagnosis was chondroblastic osteosarcoma. Autopsy findings of a child with left atrial isomerism associated with pulmonary agenesis
ABSTRACT Isomerism is a rare laterality defect. Our aim was to describe the autopsy findings of a child with left atrial isomerism (LAI) and pulmonary agenesis (PA), an association still not described in the literature. Fetal ultrasound revealed right renal agenesis, single umbilical artery and polyhydramnios. Echocardiography revealed a complex heart defect with LAI. The child died minutes after birth. Autopsy confirmed the prenatal findings and revealed the presence of unilateral PA, complex vascular abnormalities and polysplenia. In the present report, adipose metaplasia is associated with Hashimoto's thyroiditis with nodular hyperplasia and oncocytic adenoma in a 40-years-old female patient, which is one of the first reported cases of this association.
