Frequency and causes of deferral amongst voluntary non ‐remunerated blood donors from Pakistan – a single‐centre study
ConclusionThe high deferral rate in this study is illustrative of the increased use of therapeutic injections amongst the Pakistani population. Additionally, due to the compulsion of providing blood donors associated with replacement donation, they are more likely to hide health conditions, hence the lower comparative deferral rate. The Pakistani population needs to be educated regarding the high risks associated with injections and replacement donors. (Source: ISBT Science Series)

Red blood cell antigen genotyping for haemoglobinopathies: considerations for thalassaemia and sickle cell disease
There are 36 blood group systems and over 300 blood group antigens. Genetic characterization of blood group antigens has demonstrated significant diversity among populations. DNA‐based red cell typing methods can offer a cost‐effective means to determine red cell antigen profiles of both patients and donors. Haemovigilance in China: experiences, challenges and strategies
Haemovigilance (HV) plays an essential role in ensuring the safety of donors and recipients with regard to blood transfusions. China now has annually survey on blood collection and supply, but no national reporting system of AR/AE related to blood transfusion. Blood group genotyping goes next generation: featuring ABO, RH and MNS

Academic education in transfusion medicine in China
The need for physicians and technical consultants specialized in transfusion is huge in nearly twenty thousand hospitals and five hundred blood services in China.
