Skin in the game: Video-game–related cutaneous pathologies in adolescents
ConclusionsThe universal use and pervasive popularity of video games for recreational purposes present an emerging dermatological concern. As videogames become increasingly advanced and immersive, various cutaneous conditions arising from intensive gaming will likely become common over time. Consequently, it is critical that dermatologists consider video games with a high index of suspicion when encountering dermatological ailments in underage patients engaging in persistent gaming behavior. Clinical Significance of IgM Deposition in Pediatric Minimal Change Disease
ConclusionsOur study showed that IgM deposition in MCD showed statistical association with hypertension by the time the patient presented to our institute, development of steroid dependence, and CKD. IgM may play a role in MCD. However, we recommend a prospective study to verify the role of IgM in MCD outcomes. (Source: International Journal of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine)

The Prevalence of Viral infections in children with cystic fibrosis (CF) in a tertiary care center in Saudi Arabia
ConclusionViral infections contributed to the increase in morbidity and mortality of CF patients in our population, and rhinovirus was the most common causative agent. Viral infections and viral recurrence increased the prevalence of bacterial infection of specific pathogens such as H. influenza and S. aureus. Physicians should be aware to prevent progressive lung damage in CF patients by treating the concomitant viral and bacterial infections. Viral infection may be associated with some common CFTR mutations. (Source: International Journal of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine)

Utility of serum ferritin and soluble interleukin-2 receptor as markers of disease activity in childhood systemic lupus erythematosus
ConclusionMeasurement of serum ferritin and sIL-2r might help in assessing disease activity of cSLE. Both might be good screening markers for MAS in cSLE. A larger prospective study is required to allow more definitive conclusions. (Source: International Journal of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine)

Publication date: Available online 29 May 2019Source: International Journal of Pediatrics and Adolescent MedicineAuthor(s): Tracy Evans-GilbertAbstractChikungunya (CHIKV), Zika (ZIKV), and Dengue viruses (DENV) exhibit similar epidemiological and clinical patterns but have different pathophysiological mechanisms of disease manifestations. Differences occur in the severity of clinical presentations with the highest mortality in the general population attributed to DENV and neurological morbidity due to ZIKV. ZIKV and DENV infections can cause fetal loss with ZIKV exhibiting teratogenesis. CHIKV is associated with severe com...
