Are pyogenic liver abscesses still a surgical concern? A Western experience.
Conclusion. Medical and percutaneous treatment constitute the standard management of liver abscess cases. Surgery remains necessary after failure of the initial treatment but should also be considered as an early intervention for cases presenting with gas-forming abscesses and septic shock and when treatment of the underlying cause is immediately required. Evaluation of the white test for the intraoperative detection of bile leakage.
This study included 30 patients who received elective liver resection. Both the conventional bile leakage test (injecting an isotonic sodium chloride solution through the cystic duct) and the White test (injecting a fat emulsion solution through the cystic duct) were carried out in the same patients. Small-for-Size Liver Transplantation Increases Pulmonary Injury in Rats: Prevention by NIM811.
