Changes in cardiovascular risk factors over a 24-year follow-up period: a Japanese pediatric cohort study.
This study examined changes in body mass index (BMI), fasting blood sugar (FBS), total cholesterol (TC) and HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C) levels over a 24-year follow-up period in a pediatric cohort. An appropriate starting age for intervention to prevent cardiovascular diseases is still unclear. The subjects were 655 children, aged 10-12. A follow-up survey was conducted when the subjects reached ages 13-15, 16-18, and 35-45, respectively, and height, weight, and blood tests including FBS, TC and HDL-C were examined. Gender differences in D-aspartic acid content in skull bone.

An ischemic stroke patient with free floating thrombus in carotid artery, successfully treated by open carotid thrombectomy: a first case report in Nepal.
We present a case in which we performed open surgery and achieved successful retrieval of the thrombus. A 40 year-old male patient presented with ischemic stroke and mild left hemiparesis. Computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed infarction in the right parieto-occipital area. Carotid Doppler study showed carotid stenosis on the right side. Expression of RANKL and proliferation abilities of cultured human middle ear cholesteatoma epithelial cells.
In this study, we examined the relationship between inflammatory mechanisms and both bone absorption and the proliferation of epithelial cholesteatoma cells. Cultured cholesteatoma epithelial cells were stimulated by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and dexamethasone (Dex). We found that the expression of receptor activator of NF-kappaB ligand (RANKL) and Ki-67 in cultured cholesteatoma cells was increased by LPS stimulation, indicating that LPS promotes not only bone destruction but also the proliferative activities of these cells.
