Relationships among blood leptin and adiponectin levels, fat mass, and bone mineral density in Japanese pre- and postmenopausal women.
We examined the associations between the blood levels of these adipocytokines and the lumbar spine (L2-L4), left femoral, and distal forearm BMD after adjustment for the age and body fat percentage. No correlation was observed between leptin and the BMD. This is presumably due to the fact that the influence of menopause, age, duration of postmenopausal period, and body fat percentage on the BMD is greater than that of leptin levels in healthy women. Treatment of iliac artery rupture during percutaneous transluminal angioplasty: a report of three cases.
We report three cases of iliac artery rupture during percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). In all three cases, bleeding was temporarily controlled by inflating an angioplasty balloon at the site of bleeding. Two patients underwent subsequent surgical revascularization, and one underwent endovascular stent grafting but ultimately required a surgical bypass. Arterial rupture is a rare but potentially fatal complication of PTA. Influences of pyrexia and age on theophylline clearance in young children with asthma.
This study showed that the presence of pyrexia decreases theophylline clearance, and that it affects theophylline clearance in an age-dependent manner. Based on the results of this study, dosages should be designed based on the clearance at the time of pyrexia. A rare diagnostic challenge in acute appendicitis: a case report.
We report a case of a 78-year-old woman presenting with an extensive gas-forming abscess in the right gluteal region secondary to perforated appendicitis without significant gastrointestinal symptoms. Computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a retroperitoneal abscess extending along the sacropelvic surface of the ilium to the subcutaneous tissue. Subsequently, laparotomy revealed retrocecal appendicitis perforated at the base of the cecum, and contained in the retroperitoneum without any signs of peritonitis. Benign papillary mesothelioma of the peritoneum associated with gastric cancer: report of a case.

Cytisin amidophosphate--the new cytoprotector.
This article describes the results of a clinical study of O,O dimethyl-N-cytinizylphosphate in healthy volunteers and 142 patients with the verified diagnosis of acute toxic hepatitis. The tolerability was good.
