P113 * Clinical outcomes following double and triple valve surgery in Hong Kong
Conclusion: Patient requiring double and triple valve surgeries represent a heterogeneous and complex group of patients. They are a significant portion of patients undergoing valve surgery in our Institution. Outcomes in comparison to pre-operative risk scores and International Databases are satisfactory. P097 * Prognostic significance of high sensitivity C-reactive protein before and after percutaneous coronary intervention in patients with angina pectoris
Conclusion: Mechanical disruption of atherosclerotic plaque during elective coronary stent implantation causes a systemic inflammatory response. Measuring of hs-CRP either pre-procedural or post procedural in low risk patients is not useful for predicting of either early or late cardiovascular events. P055 * Tissue doppler imaging provides a new access for detection of early cardiac insult in diabetic patients
Conclusion: Diabetic patients with retinopathy who are free of cardiac symptoms showed significant impairment of diastolic function compared to diabetics without retinopathy and control group. TDI provides earlier insights into cardiovascular involvement in diabetic patients and seems to be more sensitive and informative to standard echocardiography alone to detect subclinical myocardial disease. A001 * Barriers of warfarin use for atrial fibrillation patients in Hong Kong
Conclusion: Hong Kong physiciansâ™ knowledge level of stroke prevention management was on average lower than Australian family physiciansâ™, and Hong Kong patientsâ™ knowledge of AF and warfarin therapy was in general poor, and poorer than that of UK and Finland patients, and US patients respectively. Interventions should be done to improve both physiciansâ™ and patientsâ™ knowledge in order to better utilize warfarin for AF patients. (Source: European Journal of Heart Failure Supplements)
