Diagnostic yield and safety of double balloon-assisted enteroscopy in the elderly: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions Our study shows that the complication rate is not higher in the elderly patients than that in the young patients and the elderly are more likely to have a higher diagnostic yield than the young. (Source: European Geriatric Medicine)

Evidence for the prevention of bone loss in elderly and old early non-metastatic breast cancer patients treated with aromatase inhibitors
Publication date: Available online 21 July 2017 Source:European Geriatric Medicine Author(s): V. Gunmalm, N.R. Jørgensen, B. Abrahamsen, P. Schwarz Breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer amongst women worldwide. Bone health is emerging as an important issue for BC survivors. In this literature study, we focus on agents for preventing bone loss in early non-metastatic estrogen receptor positive BC in treatment with aromatase inhibitors (AI) and to assess the evidence for antiresorptive treatment of bone loss in early non-metastatic breast cancer. We included randomized controlled trials (RCT's) comparing: (a) b...

Construct validity of Attitudes Towards Vaccinations Scale (ATVS) –part 2
Conclusions The results of the study confirmed the construct validity of the ATVS. We believe our tool may be used in a clinical practice to apply more appropriate strategies to encourage older patients to take vaccines. (Source: European Geriatric Medicine)

Development and validation of Attitudes Towards Vaccinations Scale (ATVS)  – part 1
Conclusions We developed and validated a short tool which can be applied in a clinical practice to guide the assessment of older people’ attitudes towards vaccination and their education about immunization. The second part of the series of articles provides an in-depth understanding of the theoretical relations of the construct measured by ATVS with psychological concepts. Association of comprehensive geriatric assessment with quality-related care practices during implementation and development of an orthogeriatric hip fracture program
Conclusions Implementation of an orthogeriatric program led to several quality improvements: more patients received CGA, underwent surgery within 24h of admission, and had their urinary catheter removed during the acute period of hospitalisation. Administering the CGA was associated with prompt urinary catheter removal and increased red blood cell transfusions. The timing of surgery improved independent of the CGA. Burden on family caregivers of the elderly in oncologic palliative care
Conclusions The aggravation of the disease, the functional decline of the elderly and the possibility of death increase the burden, indicating the need to offer support services to this population as early as possible. (Source: European Geriatric Medicine)

Early geriatric follow-up after discharge reduces mortality among patients living in their own home. A randomised controlled trial
Conclusion Early geriatric follow-up after discharge is a safe way of reducing readmissions and LOS among geriatric patients admitted acutely to hospital. Patients living in their own home may even benefit more from the intervention. (Source: European Geriatric Medicine)
